Kenneth Walker III added 74 yards on 17 carries.The 49ers now will watch Sunday’s action closely to see what seed they will get and who they will face next Saturday, Sunday or Monday.Here are Matt Maiocco’s takeaways from the 49ers’ tough loss:Defense looks overmatchedThe 49ers’ issues on defense were on display, as the Seahawks had their way on the ground and through the air from the start of the game. In his halftime interview on ESPN, coach Kyle Shanahan twice mentioned the number of missed tackles.Only some questionable Seattle decisions enabled the 49ers’ defense to get off the field without allowing any points on the first possession of the game.The Seahawks also missed a field goal, and the 49ers managed to escape the first half with only a seven-point deficit. Seattle rolled up 196 yards of total offense in the first 30 minutes, including a 6.1-yard average on the ground, in the first 30 minutes.Seattle had a first-and-goal situation at the 1 on their first drive of the game. But Tatum Bethune sacked Sam Darnold and the 49ers’ defense held on a fourth-down play from the 4-yard line. However, after the 49ers’ quick three-and-out, Seattle took advantage of their good field position to score the only touchdown of the first half on Charbonnet’s 27-yard touchdown run.The worst sequence for the 49ers’ defense came in the third quarter, when Walker picked up 19 yards on a third-and-17 play. San Francisco got nothing going offensively, and it was just 1-of-5 on their third-down opportunities in the first half.Purdy finally found Jennings for a 13-yard gain on a third-and-11 play to help set up Eddy Piñeiro for a 48-yard field goal to account for the 49ers’ only three points of the first half. The 49ers averaged just 3.5 yards per offensive play and went into halftime training 10-3.And their struggles continued into the second half, as the Seahawks swarmed to the ball on run plays and suffocated Purdy with their pass rush.The road from hereIt was never going to be easy, but now it has become much more difficult.The difference between a win and a loss in Saturday’s game was monumental. The winner would earn the No. 1 seed, a first-round bye and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.A victory meant the 49ers would stay at home for the duration of the postseason, which culminates with Super Bowl LX coming to Levi’s Stadium on Feb. 8.Moreover, the 49ers would have been required to win just two games at home instead of three games on the road.The 49ers’ loss means they will likely be the No. 6 seed in the NFC playoffs, as long as the Rams defeat the lowly Cardinals on Saturday.The sixth seed goes up against the No. 3 seed next week in the first round of the playoffs. Right now, that team is set up to be the Eagles. So, in all likelihood, the 49ers would need to win road games in Philadelphia, Chicago and either Seattle or against the Rams.Impossible?
