49ers QB Brock Purdy takes responsibility for overthrows: "I've got to be better"

By Kirk Larrabee
Sep 17

Even though Brock Purdy's numbers were far from awful during the 49ers' win over the Rams on Sunday, it's easy to think of what could have been had he connected on a few missed opportunities to put more points on the board. Purdy finished 17-of-25 for 206 yards, zero touchdowns, zero interceptions, and a rushing touchdown in the 30-23 win at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The touchdown number in that stat line could have been much better had Purdy connected on three passes in particular to open receivers that wound up being overthrown. The first came in the second quarter a deep ball intended for wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, then two more came later in the game on a pass over the middle towards the end zone intended for wide receiver Deebo Samuel and a

After a dominant 30-7 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1, the San Francisco 49ers improved to 2-0 with a win over their division rivals, the Los Angeles Rams, pulling away in the second half to come out ahead 30-23. Offensively, the 49ers saw a strong performance on the ground from running back Christian McCaffrey, who rushed for 116 yards and a touchdown, while the passing game featured a more collective effort, with receiver Deebo Samuel leading the way, catching six passes for 63 yards. After a strong first half propelled the 49ers to an early 20-0 lead against Pittsburgh, quarterback Brock Purdy was efficient, completing 68% of his passes in Week 2, but missed three key downfield passes via overthrows, while also failing to move the chains on a

By Rohan Chakravarthi

It's safe to say that the San Francisco 49ers cruised to victory in Week 1, defeating the Pittsburgh Steelers 30-7 in a dominant victory where the team started the game with four consecutive scoring drives and five straight three-and-outs, creating an early 20-0 lead for the road team. Offensively, the 49ers saw strong performances from running back Christian McCaffrey, who rushed for 152 yards and a touchdown, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who caught all eight of his targets for 129 yards and two touchdowns, and Deebo Samuel, who caught five passes for 55 yards. But, the offense was executed at a very high level, at least in the first half, courtesy of quarterback Brock Purdy, who had one of the stronger halves of his career over the first 30 minutes in
