The 49ers may have technically been on the road Sunday in their regular season finale against the Los Angeles Rams, but enough of their fans showed up to make SoFi Stadium in Inglewood feel like home for the visiting team. 49ers fans made their presence felt as they watched their team rally from a 17-point first half deficit to snag a memorable 27-24 overtime win over the Rams, sealing a playoff berth in the process. Multiple 49ers players commented afterwards that the fan presence made the game feel like a home contest. "It definitely did," wide receiver Deebo Samuel said. "I feel like the Rams pumped noise because there wasn't that many Rams fans in here." Linebacker Fred Warner said that one of the officials told him how impressive it was to see

'They don't make them any tougher than Jimmy': Baldy impressed by Garoppolo's gutsy 49ers-Rams performance

Early last week, no one was even sure if Jimmy Garoppolo would be suited up for Sunday's regular-season finale. The Los Angeles Rams had to figure the safe bet was a matchup against San Francisco 49ers rookie quarterback Trey Lance. And, of course, head coach Kyle Shanahan was being coy about which quarterback he planned to start. Garoppolo played through a torn ligament and chipped bone in his right thumb. After Sunday's thrilling playoff-clinching 27-24 overtime win, the quarterback admitted that he had a good feeling early in the week that he would be able to play. "Yeah, I think it was Tuesday we did the throwing session, tested it out, turned it into a game-like scenario," Garoppolo explained. "I kept being aware of it the whole week, but I had a pretty good

The team was without tackle Trent Williams (elbow), cornerback K'Waun Williams, and linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair (knee). All three were among the 49ers' six inactive players. K'Waun Williams was activated off the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday, but reportedly did not feel well enough to play, per NBC Sports Bay Area. Below are the 49ers-Rams in-game injury updates. P Mitch Wishnowsky Wishnowsky was on the receiving end of an uncalled helmet-to-helmet hit during a punt return. He was evaluated for a concussion in the blue medical tent

49ers' Trey Lance discusses improvement since last week, preparations for possible start against Rams

By Kirk Larrabee

If Trey Lance has to start at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers this week in their pressure-packed showdown against the Los Angeles Rams, he'll at least have a good idea what he's getting into, along with a little more improvement under his belt since his previous start. Lance's status for Sunday's game in Los Angeles (4:25 p.m. ET/1:25 p.m. PT, FOX) remains up in the air due to the lingering uncertainty surrounding Jimmy Garoppolo, who was sidelined in favor of Lance against the Houston Texans last week due to a thumb injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan has yet to announce who will start the game at quarterback, but Lance has been staying ready this week, in part, by splitting reps with Garoppolo after getting all of the first-team reps last week.
