49ers’ QB coach joins Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch at Justin Fields’ pro day

Apr 14, 2021 at 11:39 AM--

NFL teams are allowed to send three representatives to Justin Fields' second pro day today in Columbus, Ohio. We already knew head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch would represent the San Francisco 49ers. According to NBC Sports Bay Area, the third representative will be quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello, who also attended Fields' first workout on March 30 with 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters.

The other teams attending today's workout are the New York Jets, Atlanta Falcons, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and New England Patriots.

Neither Shanahan nor Lynch was in attendance for Fields' first pro day. Instead, they chose to watch quarterback Mac Jones in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, knowing that there would be other opportunities to see both Fields and Trey Lance of North Dakota State. On Monday, Shanahan and Lynch will travel to Fargo, North Dakota, to watch Lance work out.

Scangarello returned to the 49ers this offseason. He had a two-year stint with the 49ers, serving as the team's quarterbacks coach, from 2017-18. Scangarello was named the Denver Broncos offensive coordinator in 2019, a position in which he lasted just one season. He spent last year as a senior offensive assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles before rejoining San Francisco in January.

Fields, Lance, and Jones are the top three quarterback candidates for the 49ers at the No. 3 spot in the 2021 NFL Draft, which begins on April 29.
