Justin Wong just released his latest Mock Draft Roundup. The overwhelming favorite projection for the San Francisco 49ers at the No. 3 overall pick is the selection of quarterback Mac Jones of Alabama. Add NFL Network's Peter Schrager to the list of those following that narrative. The Good Morning Football host released his own mock draft on Thursday morning, and like most others, it has Trevor Lawrence of Clemson and Zach Wilson of BYU coming off the board with the top two selections. The NFL's offseason program was scheduled to begin on Monday. Players from several teams came together and opted out of the voluntary portions of Phase 1, deciding to forgo in-person workouts due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. San Francisco 49ers players had not yet made a similar statement. The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) has been pushing for an alteration to the offseason schedule, hoping for no in-person activities until training camp in July, as was the case last offseason. However, the NFL has been pushing for in-person activities to begin after just two weeks of virtual sessions. On Wednesday, the league announced a restructure to the offseason programs. Now, there will be no on-field work until May 17. That will be restricted to no-contact drills,

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, former San Francisco 49ers tight end Jordan Reed is retiring. Reed is an unrestricted free agent after spending last season with the Niners. He missed six games in 2020 due to an MCL sprain and ankle injury suffered in Week 3. Reed had dealt with concussions before joining the 49ers. He missed all of the 2019 season after suffering one from a hit during a preseason game. The lingering effects led to the decision to call it a career. "I was pretty sure I was going to keep playing; I was feeling good about where I was at," Reed told ESPN's John Keim. "But then I had some lingering effects and sought out professional help to get diagnosed.

Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network is well-informed when it comes to pre-draft chatter around the league. The draft analyst hears all of the Mac Jones-to-49ers speculation, with many proclaiming the scenario as a near-lock. Pauline wants everyone to pump the brakes on that a bit because he doesn't see it as the certainty that many others would lead you to believe it is. "People, I think, are just under the assumption of belief that it's a foregone conclusion that [the San Francisco 49ers are] going to take Mac Jones with that third pick in the draft," Pauline told Trey Wingo on a recent podcast (h/t to Patrick Tulini). "I'm told that's not the case at all. There are some things that they're looking at with Mac Jones
