Local fans of the San Francisco 49ers finally have something to cheer for as their team will play in a packed Levi's Stadium for the first time in just over 20 months. Coincidentally, the Niners will face the Green Bay Packers, the same team they last faced at the stadium in front of thousands of fans in the NFC Championship Game. That game ended with a blowout in the Niners' favor, 37-20, and the team will look to continue this success on this upcoming Sunday night. The Niners as a whole seem to be excited to play a prime time game in front of their fans, and star tight end George Kittle, for one, is as excited as can be. Kittle had this to say on Thursday about the opportunity to play the Packers in front of The Faithful after an extended hiatus: "I mean it was

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan spoke with reporters after today's practice and provided an update on Javon Kinlaw. The second-year defensive tackle has been dealing with a setback in his knee, an injury that occurred on December 20, 2020, against the Dallas Cowboys and forced him to miss the last two games of the season. Kinlaw was officially listed as "doubtful" for Sunday on the team's injury report. With the knee issues continuing to resurface, Shanahan was asked if injured reserve is a possibility for the defensive tackle. "Not yet," the coach responded. "I mean, he's still got a chance to play this week, so we're still trying to decide that. So, not yet." General manager John Lynch didn't sound too optimistic about Kinlaw's

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided several injury updates during a conference call this afternoon. Among them was confirmation that cornerback Jason Verrett would miss the remainder of the season after suffering a torn ACL on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. A surprising injury update was that running back Raheem Mostert will miss about eight weeks after sustaining some chipped knee cartilage. He exited the game in the first half and was replaced by rookie Elijah Mitchell. The 49ers spent two draft picks on running backs. In addition to Mitchell, a sixth-round pick, the team drafted Trey Sermon out of Ohio State in the third round.

Kyle Shanahan wants Brandon Aiyuk to earn his spot back, says receiver isn't in 49ers' doghouse

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan joined KNBR's Murph & Mac show this morning and threw cold water on the heated rumors that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is in his doghouse. The second-year player had an impressive rookie campaign last season, and high expectations prefaced his sophomore NFL season. In Week 1, Aiyuk split playing time with Trent Sherfield and wasn't targeted against the Detroit Lions. It had nothing to do with the young receiver being in Shanahan's doghouse, though. The coach wanted to dispel those rumors and once again explain Aiyuk's reduced role. "No. It's not a doghouse. It's just a pretty simple thing," Shanahan said. "Trent Sherfield has played at a very high level every single day for the entire training camp. Aiyuk
