Tevin Coleman, Nick Bosa help 49ers throttle Panthers 51-13 in Week 8

Critics are going to have an even tougher time saying the San Francisco 49ers haven't played any real competition during their win streak to start the 2019 season.

This, after the Niners moved to 7-0 on the season after defeating the Carolina Panthers at Levi's Stadium on Sunday, in which San Francisco dominated nearly all the action from opening kickoff to the final whistle. Carolina, now 4-3, entered the contest winners of four straight, boasting a quarterback, Kyle Allen, who had yet to toss an interception after taking over starting duties from the injured Cam Newton back in Week 3.

Both streaks came to an end, as the 49ers pulled off a 51-13 win in Week 8, also picking off Allen three times.

The 49ers dominated the first half of action, getting newly acquired wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders into the end zone on their first possession. From there, it was running back Tevin Coleman's show, as he managed three first-half touchdowns, two on the ground and one through the air to help the Niners get out to a dominant 27-3 first-half lead.

On defense, rookie EDGE Nick Bosa was an absolute force, picking up three sacks on the day, all of which came in the first half.

Defensive tackle Arik Armstead, meanwhile, also added two sacks of his own.

Carolina managed a mere 76 yards in the first half, thanks largely to Bosa and an effective San Francisco pass rush, which sacked Allen six times overall during the game.

Yet things got a bit dicey in the third quarter, though, as the Panthers sacked quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the end zone for a safety, which led to Carolina's following drive culminating in running back Christian McCaffrey getting in for a 40-yard touchdown run. The Panthers' subsequent two-point conversion attempt succeeded, which then set San Francisco's lead at 27-13.

Risking losing momentum after the Panthers netted 10 points off Niners mistakes, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and Co. marched down the field the following drive, which ended with wide receiver Deebo Samuel getting an inside handoff for a 20-yard touchdown run, making the game 34-13 in favor of San Francisco.

Garoppolo was 18-of-22 on the day for 175 yards, two touchdowns against one interception for a 111.2 passer rating. He did take three sacks, although those were almost entirely offset by what San Francisco's defense was able to do against Allen.

Allen passed for 153 yards and had a rating of 28.3.

One of Allen's tossed interceptions led directly to Coleman's fourth touchdown of the game, which came on a 1-yard interior run with 32 seconds left in the third quarter to put the 49ers up 41-13. But that wasn't quite as entertaining as Bosa recording his first NFL-level interception, which he returned for 46 yards to close out the quarter:

The Niners got three points off that takeaway to go up 44-13. With that lead, Garoppolo's day was done, giving way to backup quarterback Nick Mullens, whose first play resulted in yet another touchdown, this time to running back Raheem Mostert, pushing the score to a whopping 51-13.

And a perfect 7-0 record, too. Perhaps there aren't going to be as many naysayers now, as the Niners end Carolina's win streak and do so in dominant fashion.
