The San Francisco 49ers looked as if they would pull off an incredible upset over the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football, but falling in heartbreaking fashion on a game-winning field goal by the Packers' Mason Crosby.

The San Francisco 49ers surprisingly carried a 24-20 lead into the first half of their Week 6 Monday Night Football showdown on the road against the heavily favored Green Bay Packers.

A big reason why was wide receiver Marquise Goodwin who, after returning from an injury absence in Week 5, hauled in two deep touchdown passes in the first half from quarterback C.J. Beathard. Opening things up deep also allowed running back Matt Breida, who was active and playing despite an ankle injury, to have a solid effort throughout the contest. Breida got San Francisco on the board first with a 3-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, eventually finishing with 61 yards on 14 carries for the game.

Yet backup runner Raheem Mostert appeared to be the bigger force, rushing for 87 yards and 7.3 yards per attempt. It helped that San Francisco's offensive line was completely dominant in run support throughout the game.

Mostert, Breida, Goodwin, Beathard and the offense had little trouble operating in the first half. The question was going to be whether or not head coach Kyle Shanahan could have his offense maintain continuity and effectiveness into the second half.

San Francisco's first second-half possession started promising but ended in a 49-yard field goal by kicker Robbie Gould to increase the lead to 27-23. Another by Gould early in the fourth put the Niners ahead 30-23.

The 49ers needed to take advantage of every possession, especially going up against Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who finished the night 25-of-46 for 425 yards and two touchdowns on the night. And Rodgers' fourth-quarter drives were the reason why he's going to be a Hall of Famer.

Overall, Green Bay mustered a total of 521 all-purpose yards on the night.

That number shouldn't have been that high, however. The Niners committed two turnovers during the game, which contributed to their league-worst turnover differential. Tack on an illegal contact penalty against cornerback Richard Sherman on the game-winning drive, which happened on third down, one can see how San Francisco's defense remains a key issue. And giving extra possessions to Rodgers and Co. isn't exactly a good idea regardless if he's healthy or not. But despite some massive first-quarter defensive miscues, coordinator Robert Saleh's defense managed to clamp down in the second half, eventually holding the Packers to a 4-of-13 mark on third downs -- an area in which Rodgers has thrived this season.

Rodgers and the Packers nearly tied the game with just under eight minutes left in the fourth quarter. They had the ball on the 49ers' 4-yard line on a 4th-and-3 play. But Rodgers' pass fell incomplete, as cornerback K'Waun Williams had inside position on wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling. San Francisco took over.

But that didn't help, as Beathard tossed a key interception late in the game, and Rodgers did Rodgers-like things.

Packers kicker Mason Crosby iced it with a game-winning field goal to send the 49ers to 1-5 on the season.

Such is the story for San Francisco.

Offensive lineman Jon Feliciano and linebacker Demetrius Flannigan-Fowles recently re-signed with the San Francisco 49ers on one-year deals. OverTheCap.com has revealed the contract information for both deals. Feliciano signed a contract that includes the minimum base salary for a player with eight accrued seasons of experience—$1.21 million. Flannigan-Fowles' base salary is slightly higher, at about $1.77 million. Feliciano is scheduled to count about $2.28 million against the 2024 salary cap, while Flannigan-Fowles is slated to consume almost $1.3 million. The linebacker's reduced impact is due to the 49ers using a portion of up to $1.45 million of salary that won't count against the salary cap for veteran players. The 49ers are paying Feliciano a
