Torrey Smith, who was with the team for just two seasons, created a post on Instagram thanking the Niner Faithful. "I'd like to apologize to the fans because you didn't get to see me at my best," Smith wrote in the post.
"Jed keep up the great work I know how important it is to you to succeed," Smith continued. "All the best to my boys and the new regime."
In 2016, Smith had the worst statistical season of his six-year career. He caught just 20 passes for 267 yards and three touchdowns. Each of the three statistics were career lows. Smith finished the season on the injured reserve list after suffering a concussion on December 11 against the New York Jets.
Smith spent two seasons with the 49ers following four in Baltimore, including being part of the Super Bowl XLVII team that beat the 49ers. Over the past two seasons, Smith had 53 receptions for 930 yards and seven touchdowns through 28 games.
