49ers place just-extended TE McDonald on IR

Three days after signing tight end Vance McDonald to a five-year contract extension, the 49ers placed him on injured reserve today because of a shoulder injury. ESPN reported his extension is worth $35 million with $16 million in guarantees, although the fine-print actual figures could reveal the deal isn't quite so lucrative. McDonald, who missed two games earlier this season with a hip injury, missed eight games in 2014 with a back injury that forced him to be placed on injured reserve. The 49ers initially announced Kilgore had a leg injury, although head coach Chip Kelly said he was told Kilgore had a knee injury.
