Joe Thuney is arguably better than Nelson and got traded for a 4th with no contract at all.

That is objectively an excellent haul for the Colts for three expiring contracts, none of which play a top 3 position in terms of importance.

Have you seen a trade like this happen in the last 3-4 decades of NFL football?
Buckner seems like a Lynch move. Guy that has played here. He knows the system and won't take long to adjust. Plus the cost won't be high as he is on an expiring contract. More than likely would only require a 3rd rounder.

Jermaine Johnson is someone else who I'd keep my eyes on. Also on an expiring contract and we have a relationship with Saleh. Again a 3rd would probably get it done. Would give us good speed on the EDGE.

Daron Payne is another name to keep an eye on. Again (common theme) on an expiring deal. Again connection with Peters. He'd definitely help the interior D-Line. He's up and down and could go on a heater during a playoff run. Probably would cost a 3rd as well.

Those three guys would help. Would be nice to get one of them.

Would love to add depth and or a stud in the secondary but don't see anything happening there.

I think Garrett Wilson would be the perfect addition on offense. This dude has balled out with low end QB play his whole career. He seems to be vocal about his frustration so maybe the Jets would deal him.

Wilson / Evans / Stribs / Deebo would give us a a great WR corps for a SB run. It would also give us Wilson / Evans / Pearsall / Stribs in 2027. This is the guy to go spend picks on.

Should be an interesting two weeks to come!

I just wish they would make a move now, forget waiting for the trade deadline. If they traded now or COULD complete a trade now, they'd give that player two weeks to cram the playbook. To clarify, if they're gonna trade for an offensive player I'd hope they can complete a trade now. To give that player on offense two weeks to cram the playbook.

I'm sure the 49ers feel the same way

but it takes two to tango

Jordan Schultz had an interview with Ryan Clark on The Pivot Sports. Schultz mentioned that he's heard that the 49ers and Bears are going to be very active during the trade deadline. And that the two teams are checking in on Buckner, Sweat and Khalil Mack. Also those two teams are calling about players that aren't even on the trade block.

Let more speculation begin!!!
Garrett Wilson trade destinations: Chiefs, 49ers among three potential landing spots for Jets star - https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/jets-garrett-wilson-trade-landing-spots-chiefs-49ers/

Under no circumstances can Lynch watch KC make this move. We can not let them get the upper hand on us again just to save draft picks. If Wilson is available, we have to make sure we have the best offer on the table to complete a trade.

Please be aggressive!
Easier to expect the "we like who we have" and then be pleasantly surprised if/when something happens

2026 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 2027 1st, 2nd and 3rd?

There still has to be limits, if the Chiefs are of the same philosophy (we have to have the best offer) then he will never be traded. 49ers offer a 1st they offer 1st + 7th. Then 1st + 6th, then 5th, and so on.

Our whole 27/28 draft. Our whole 27/28 draft plus Emmett Johnson.

Depends on the asking price. If KC is willing to give up a lot then they should absolutely watch KC make that move. This is not a high volume WR offense and if the asking price is a 1st rd pick i don't feel like investing 3 of your last 4 first round picks (Pearsall, Stirbling, Wilson) on receivers is wise.

my fear is not who we get but who Seattle the chiefs end up with. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Lynch could be on his way out if he screws the pooch….

I'm aware that multi-player trades (in fact, MUCH bigger multi-player trades than what I'm proposing) were more common in the olden days, but that doesn't mean one can't happen today.

The main reason they're rare is because how often does a team have a firesale in the middle of the season with several good players on expiring contracts? The Colts are in a pretty unique position. One season ago they were pushing their chips in, now they fired their GM and are having a firesale.

My main point was to the other poster who acted like that's not nearly enough of an offer for those three players. It is objectively more than enough. All three players are on expiring contracts. None of them play QB, LT, edge rusher, or shut down corner. Downs is not a #1 WR.

If the Colts are looking for a 2nd for Nelson, a 3rd for Buckner and a 4th for Downs, and all are expiring contracts and one team is willing to offer the picks for all three, why not get it all done in one trade?
For pass rush I want Khalil Mack from Chargers & Will MacDonald IV from the Jets. Gives us depth & experience for Super Bowl push this year on defense along w/ future help opposite of Bosa do your thing Lynch

That sounds great. And somehow get Nelson.

What? Sorry, no. That would be a trade that would get Lynch fired.

Have to wonder how much time Lynch has left as GM.

Things started off on a bad foot in 2017 when they drafted a bust instead of Mahomes (or even Watson). I don't think it's out of line to say the 49ers have at least two SB wins now had they drafted Mahomes.

Lynch's drafts should be compared with what Seattle and the Rams have produced. And it's not even close; 49ers are way behind on that front.

I'm so sick of this false narrative.

You're like a baseball fan who is upset with a batter for only hitting .320 - without looking around the league to see what everyone else is hitting.

here are the notable players each franchise has drafted since 2017

Seattle (John Schneider)

DK Metcalf
Charles Cross
Boye Mafe
Kenneth Walker III
Riq Woolen
Devon Witherspoon
Jaxon Smith-Njigba
Derick Hall
Abraham Lucas
Byron Murphy
Grey Zabel
Nick Emmanwori

Brandon Aiyuk
Colton McKivitz
Jauan Jennings
Deommodore Lenoir
