Funny thing about that last point. At the height of Tennessee's National Championship runs with Pat Summit, they were doing this tour thing around the country. Playing exhibitions and stuff. One day Pat Summit thought it would be a good idea to pull 5 random guys out of the crowd and have them play against her starting 5. Trying to prove a point about how superior they were against men. These 5 random schlubs proceeded to whoop her team like they had never seen before to the point that Pat stopped the game, grabbed the mic and declared her team victorious, and stormed off the court. lol

But nobody gives a f**k about that league, hence it doesn't generate revenue, hence its players get paid s**t. She should shut the f**k up about players in the NBA and what they get paid. Comparing her WNBA salary to those in the NBA is ludicrous. She should be embarrassed for making a statement lie that.

They don't generate any revenue because of how the league and the players have been marketed or the lack there of. The league has been mishandled since Stern and the NBA Board approved it in 96. Plus back then it was still a "bad" thing for women to be outspoken and fight for equality and women's rights. Had this latest push for women's rights and equality happened back then, I think the league would have been more successful. Not NBA level successful but they wouldn't be seen as the joke they are now. I don't know if its possible for them to catch up now, probably not, but they deserve to be getting paid more. Not millions of course but low-mid six figure salaries are more than realistic.

I'm calling b******t on that, man. The league isn't successful because the game is boring to watch. It has nothing to do with poor marketing. Outside of tennis and maybe golf (non team sports), woman's sports is not very popular in the USA. It's not sensational enough. It doesn't make money because people don't care for it. They could put it on espn every single night on prime time and nobody would watch. They could blanket advertising and coverage on it and still nobody would care. They don't pay the woman more because it doesn't make that much money.

The WNBA only pays players roughly 20 percent of total league revenue, or $11 million split between every player in the league, according to Berri's studies. The NBA pays players about half of league revenue, or about $3 billion.

They could double the percentage of revenue paid to its players and that would still only be $22 Million. That's basically a better than average NBA players yearly salary. The entire league makes only $55 million a year. Compared to the nba's $6 BILLION. Why in the hell should she get paid anything close to what Barnes makes if she isn't bringing in the sort of revenue NBA players bring in?

I'm not saying she or anyone else should be paid what Barnes is getting paid, but I don't think they should have to travel to and work in Europe just to have a comfortable life either. Them and the G-Leaguers are incredibly underpaid for the amount of work they put in for their teams and leagues.

Do you have a link to that cause I can't find it. If you're talking about the 90s. If you're talking about in the 90s than that doesn't surprise me. Women's college ball in the 90s was pretty awful.

They need to lower the rim for women's basketball

More need to dunk , would love to see a vagina get smeared in an opponents face .

I know the league would have folded if it wasn't for the NBA. Like I said in another post it was the wrong time to create the league and they totally mishandled it for a long time. Perhaps still are even.

I don't know how its a dumb point about the woman on the bench when you had a dumb point yourself. You can't compare two leagues of different genders. They may not be as big and muscular as the guys in the NBA but that doesn't mean one is harder than the other. Its not like the WNBA is letting every woman who thinks she can ball play on their teams. They have to be good enough to make the cut, same as the NBA. If you're saying the NBA is harder than Euroball or the G-League sure that makes sense, but its not fair to compare two different genders playing the same sport. It just sounds misogynistic.

Do they play with 10 ft rims? I agree if they would lower the rim it would make their game way more entertaining. Dunks = Entertainment = More Fans They pushed the 3 point line in 4 feet from the men's so I don't know why it would hurt to lower the rims. Old school players like Taurisi would probably b***h and moan about it, but the younger players like Della Done and Brittany Griner would probably be all for it.

Too funny ...I know her teams would practice against dudes who were "recruited" from around campus, usually guys who maybe played in high school, and she'd get pissed if they started playing too hard. But she felt the mens' speed and power was better for her team to practice against than other women.

No link. I first heard the story on the Damon Bruce show. I feel like it was when he was on knbr, so sometime in the last decade or so. It wasn't some huge story because it wasn't a televised event, and is it really some huge story that men beat woman at a sporting event? Not really. Nobody cares a bunch of guys beat some chicks. Nobody cares about woman's basketball. Do I wish that weren't true and woman's basketball was exciting and all these girls made what NBA players make? Sure, but that's not the case. And I don't really care.

It's just the way it is. I've played soccer my whole life. It's my favorite sport. But for the most part, nobody gives a s**t in the US. Our league is much less skilled than others and their players make much less money than players in other leagues. Do our guys deserve to get more for what they do and deserve much more fanfare and accolades? Sure, but it's not the case. And I don't really care. Same thing about the WNBA.

Oh they probably do but it's always going to be tied to popularity. Just like Olympic athletes barely scrape by, especially if they don't medal. It's not gonna happen tho. As u said, u think they deserve better but have also never been to a game. Thas kinda why they don't make more. I have a friend who plays professional lacrosse in the NLL, they don't make much cus it's not popular.

Why do they deserve it, because they work really hard at something? It's a league that by most accounts has a hard time turning any kind of profit, struggles to attract attendance/viewers, wouldn't still exist if not for ESPN/NBA, and even a "legacy" franchise in NYC can't make money which is why Jimmy Dolan wants to offload it. But for some reason they deserve more? If higher salaries can't be accomplished through increased revenue, then what's the answer, for the NBA to greatly increase their welfare payments to the WNBA?
