Crikey it's the Cricket Thread

Yeah, personally I'm not even a fan of the T20 format, but there's no going back now.

Watched cricket today because my brother in law is over and is a fan.

Gotta say, once you start to understand the game, you get into it.

Was it a T20 World Cup game you saw?

Yeah, Virat Kohli. He's one of the best batsmen in the game so great place to start. He smashed us for sure, 82 runs off only 51 balls under those circumstances...the little bugger.

Watching test cricket can also be enjoyable when you do get into it, watching live 3-4 days of it. When I was 12-13 I watched West Indies vs Aust or NZ
I cant remember but I do know it was the West Indies and they had superstars in their team, it was the school holidays and there was nothing else to do so I watched test cricket, that was the most awesome batting from both sides.

Test match cricket is the true form of the game. One day cricket is something of a meh. 20/20 is just a farce.

Test cricket has had 140 years to try and capture a world audience and has failed to do so.
Like it or loath it 20/20 has brought a completely new fan demographic to the game in its short time and has the appeal to bring in fans from non traditional cricket countries.

Yeah, Test is top dog for me and loved ODI's in their 80's heyday, but I think the two shorter forms are the only way real expansion will ever occur.

Both of these responses carry the assumption that expansion is good, vital even. I don't agree.
I'm here in India and as soon as Dhoni won the game on the 1st ball of the 20th over fire crackers and car horns went off. It reminded when I was living in Manhattan and the Yankees won their last World Series, fans were yelling from the roof tops. Kholi's knock was awesome, he was playing singles and as soon as the 16th or 17th over came he was shot out of a cannon and took over the game. Australia had no answer. Somewhere in India Anushka Sharma is saying, "Virat, please come back to me so I can get National Exposure again". For those unaware Anushka is a Bollywood actress who was dating Kholi, she received as much airtime during games as Kholi.
Here's a picture of the once happy couple.

Yeah, it's a religion over there for sure. Can only imagine how crazy it'll get if they win the whole thing. Weren't a lot of Indian fans complaining about Kholi's involvement with Anushka as his form was down at the time?

Yes they were and Kholi has been calling out the press and the fans over it.
Congratulations England, powerful performance...

Shame for the Kiwis... They played so well all tournament, but it might be a classic case of peaking too early... Keep your heads up that elusive WC victory in either ODI or T20 seems not too far away.

Amazing! Doesn't change my opinion of the form though.
