In all seriousness, name the last position player the Giants drafted/developed before Buster Posey. They say they're not going to yo-yo him, they do. They say he'll get ample AB's, he hasn't. Baseball is a game of rhythm and having 11 scattered AB's is not a way to get into one.

The thing that really cracks me up is Crawford was off to a terrible start, but because they have no other options at SS, they keep playing him. And now look, had probably his best game all season today.

Clearly he's struggling, no one's saying differently. My problem is that he's not getting an opportunity to work through it because the Giants management is inept at developing position players not named Buster Posey.

I'm not saying you're wrong, because you're not. I just don't like how they at some point claim he's the 1B of the future, and then have no idea how to handle his development. If this is the way he's going to be played, he'd be better off in AAA.

I think what they want to have happen is for him to hit well enough to play in LF, and then take over for Huff next year. Look, I'm not a Huff apologist but Belt isn't going to play 1B over Huff this year unless he absolutely tanks. They want some more return on his salary investment. In all honesty, you have to admit that he is seeing the ball well so far this year. While his average isn't showing much yet, his OBP is good and he's hitting the ball hard. I fully expect that this will be his last year as a Giant, but as long as he produces he will be playing most of the time. I hope Belt hits...I really do. But the head over heels infatuation for him from some people amazes me, because he simply hasn't shown he can hit at this level...yet. If he is so mentally fragile that sitting on his butt for a few games here and there puts him off of his game, then he doesn't belong. He has to be ready to perform when he gets a chance. All young players face this. Those that can handle it will make it...those that can't won't. It's not rocket science.

If Huff had only signed a one year deal and wasn't on the team now, we'd see Belt starting at 1B 85% of the time at the position and that's what he needs. My problem is the Giants continually hold on to veterans who can't hack it anymore (IE Aaron Rowand as the most recent example, should have been cut three years ago).

If they really truly believe Belt is the 1B of the future and want him to succeed, they have to put him in a position to do so. And right now, that is not even close to what they're doing. Every other young 1B is entrenched at his position and doesn't have to constantly look over his shoulder if he's not succeeding. Of course Belt was pressing early on, he's worried he's not going to get consistent playing time, which is what he needs to adjust.
