Bro, that is the reason I am a giants fan. My dad had A's and giant season tickets from work and the A's we're really good in the 70s. For some reason I liked the underdog and hated all the talk about the superstars they had. My dad is a giant fan also, but he roots for the A's. Older generations don't feel they need to like one or the other like newer generations. But I hate oakland fans, always have. But I had some good times in the 70s and 80s watching A's games live. Also spent a lot of time in the Modesto A's games.

But the Giants are my true love followed by the niners.

Well I hate you too

u hate us because you are envious.

Its ridiculous sometimes. It makes me hate that website. I dont know if Giants fans are the same way, I've never really noticed it except when they rub it in our faces that they have a better stadium and team than us.

Giants fans dont hate the A's at all. The base of the A's hatred towards the Giants is all jealousy. We have the bigger fanbase, we have the richer history, we get more local and national attention, we have the best stadium in the majors compared to the worst, and we keep the good players fans love around longterm.

The A's hate us, but they really just want to BE us. The A's deserve better, as long as they stay out of our territory.

Lol...there is some truth to what you say, but I'm old enough to remember when the A's pretty much owned bay area baseball back in the '70s. The Giants played in a shathole (Candlestick) with that ugly miscolored astroturf, they drew 3000-5000 fans during weekday games, and they were boring and terrible. I remember Lon Simmons making a joke back during this time period that if the FBI wanted to find Patty Hearst they should look in the upper deck at Candlestick Park because it would be a perfect hiding place since nobody ever went up there. I can remember being at an A's game against the Orioles one night back in 1973 or 74. Bert Campinaris, Reggie Jackson, Joe Rudi, Vida Blue, Catfish Hunter...championship flags hanging in the outfield. I was with a buddy who was an A's fan and all I remember feeling was being p*ssed off and jealous that the team I loved was so bad compared to the A's.

Unfortunately, the A's under the current ownership are pretty much a joke, so their fans now are looking across the bay with much envy. That is what instills the hate.

I was talking mainly about the last 20 years. Basically the turning point where the Giants signed Bonds and stayed in SF.

The A's have been the more successful franchise overall here in the bay area, but its always seemed to be Giants over A's among bay area fans. Maybe because the Giants came out here first, and had Willie Mays.

One thing to remember as well is that baseball was huge in San Francisco before the Giants ever came here with the Seals in the old PCL. There were some great MLB ballplayers that played in San Francisco at old Seals Stadium, including of course the most famous native son Joe Dimaggio. The Giants had a ready made fan base when they moved here in '58, and that is why they will always be more connected to this area than the A's.

You guys hit on the key reasons the Giants are more popular than the A's.
1) They were the first team to come to the Bay Area and had huge stars from the beginning: Mays, McCovey, Cepeda, Marichal
2) Bonds signing turned a franchise around that had come so close to moving to Toronto and TB/St.Pete. Gave the Giants another superstar at a time when the A's mini dynasty was ending.

3) Pac Bell Park (ATT) - With the best park in baseball the Giants give the fans a great experience as opposed to Oakland which has perhaps the worst stadium in baseball.

It is amazing how things have worked out though. If a couple of things didnt happen the Giants would have moved and the A's would have been THE team in the Bay Area. Thank GOD that didnt happen. I never would have become an A's fan and I dont know who I would have rooted for.

So true...unknown to many Giant fans: Bud Herseth
Man, not fun thinking back when we all thought the Giants were moving to Florida. Those were dark, dark times.

Yep. Bob Lurie was really the main guy but he got Herseth to join him to buy the club. Stupid ass Horace Stoneham had actually sold the team to a group from Toronto but the courts stopped the deal for some reason that escapes me. I thought the Giants were gone for sure.
Is Lincy going to turn it around today?

It was a beautiful day when the Shorenstein/McGowan group purchased the Giants from Lurie and announced they were staying in San Francisco. I remember they had a couple of video clips from a couple of sports bars in Tampa/St. Pete where they were about to riot. I remember one lady jumped up from her seat when McGowan was speaking and yelled "Kill Him!"

BTW, we owe a lot to the O'Malley family who owned the Dodgers at the time and said they would have NEVER voted in favor of the move and essentially forced Lurie to negotiate with the current ownership group.
