I have to admit, I haven't watched he's a ton of Canes hockey. Read about their system. After watching them in the finals
the things I notice:
-D always have the green light to be aggressive at offensive blue line. Not only does this disrupt breakouts, but enables cycling high and keeping the puck in. I played this system as a Dman my senior year and love it. It requires defensive minded forwards who will cycle high to cover as needed
-chip puck to space. Don't just pass. Crazy how well this works. Chopping/flipping puck to empty space and let your forwards fetch. Generates a lot of possession even though it's counter intuitive to possession style play. It's not dump in hockey but the concept is similar
with the puck in offense zone, they keep it on perimeter with high cycle and focus on point shots (which are often very low quality)
the overall Carolina team isn't that talented. Especially the D kinda suck.
what really makes them a top team is Aho and Jarvis creativity. They break up the perimeter play and attack the middle with speed and puck handling
