Speculation that Carter may be arriving soon. Was pulled from the game tonight with AAA and with Watson sent to the DL and Barton "day to day", makes sense to bring up a bat and why not bring up one of the hottest bats in all of the minors.

.366/.464/.699 with 8 2Bs, 8 HRs, 24 RBIs wtih 17 BBs/20 K in 93 ABs in the second half so far in the minors at AAA.

Yes be excited that Carter is finally up, but I wouldn't expect him to be great from the get go.

If you look at Carter's time in the minors especially with the A's since the start of 2008 when he started off at Stockton, it usually takes him a while to get fully used to the league he's playing and he might not put up huge #s early on in the bigs.

But still, just the threat of somebody with some power is what the A's have needed not only this year but really since 06 when they had guys like Thomas, Swisher, Bradley combining for over 75 HRs with the first two hitting 30+.

As much as Carter has continued with his great July into AUG, same can't be said about Taylor.

I thought up until recently that it would be Taylor to come up first and provide the most impact since Carter had a hard time making contact and he was K'ing a lot but since July, his #s overall have improved a ton.

it's really sad that when a team scores 3 runs against us i automatically assume we're going to lose the game.

We had the toughest time hitting in Sea this week. Nevertheless, able to put together a couple of nice innings today. Carter still yet to grab his first ML hit. He was robbed of a double and thrown out by the Mariners' third baseman late in today's game.

That sucks, only pitched a total of 9 real innings in the two years since he signed the highest ever signing bonus for a international FA.

Still only 18, actually will turn 19 late next month.

He will miss the entire 2011 season but hopefully all this elbow s**t he's been thru since dating back to last year is solved with this surgery and that he can start to finally pitch near 100% in 2012. Stinks that his development is pushed yet another year.

Yeah, TJS have killed this team's pitching depth over the past few seasons.

We all know bout Ynoa. But....

DLS-the crown jewel of the Swisher deal from the ChiSox. IMO he was probably the most highly thought of prospect the A's got back in those two major deals with ARZ and the ChiSox after the 07 season and that list includes now CarGon, Anderson and Carter. He was part of that great Stockton rotation to begin 08 that included Anderson and Cahill, and HRod who was still used as a SP back then. He started off pretty well, then struggled and then shut down. So far this season he's looking pretty good. 4.34 ERA/1.21 WHIP in 37.1 IP this year at A+ and AA. But a VERY IMPRESSIVE 58 Ks/13 BBs. He's been used out of the pen so I don't know if the A's don't view him anymore as a SP. But like with other SP that I'll go into, even if DLS is viewed as a SP possibly in the future, where does he fit as it looks as the A's starting rotation looks set for the next handful of years, barring injury. I could see DLS fight for a bullpen spot to begin next season though. Maybe he's the A's closer of the future, we've all seen how Beane doesn't value closers much during the first decade of the 2000s. Maybe he'll sell high on Bailey if it could land the A's a bat? Bailey even though he's still IMO one of the better closers in baseball has seen his K/9 drop from where it was last season. Add to that the injuries that seem to be popping up, maybe good time to sell high on him. I know there was disucssion before the deadline where there was a rumor that the NYY wanted Soria from KC and were willing to give up their prized young hitting prospect Montero whos in AAA. Montero probably will be moved off as a C and NYY have probably another C in mind for their C of the future once Posada's time is done there in Romine, although knowing the NYY they could or trade for a veteran all star C as they've done so many times in the past decade especially. Anyway, Montero if he isn't a C, the only other position he could play would be 1B, unlikely with Tex signed up for the next 5+ years with the NYY or DH....and who knows if the NYY would want a "rookie" essentially playing a position where they expect a guy to hit 30 HRs/100 RBIs every season. I'd personally do a Bailey-Montero deal and if the NYY were supposedly interested in Soria, why wouldn't they be interested in Bailey too. Adding a Montero to the A's who desperately need to find hitters bad would be much needed regardless if there is a logjam at 1B/DH. Probably mute anyways as I don't think any such move woudl happen.

Outman-I didn't think much of him in the Blanton deal but we all saw how well he pitched for about a month as a SP in 09. Probably won't see him until 2011 and who knows whether it'll be back as a SP or RP which is how I think the A's viewed him when they traded for him and called him up last year. With Anderson-Cahill-Braden-Gio-Mazzaro looking set as the 5 man rotation heading into 2011, don't see where Outman would fit in the rotation if he's back to his pre TJS form which I've said a few times that in terms of pure stuff, he might be there with Anderson.

Leon-after his very good 09 season including finishing the year VERY STRONG as a SP, you thought this year was gonna be the year where he finally arrived in the bigs with him starting the year at AAA. But he just didn't look right and now we know why.

Figueroa-was thought to be the breakout candidate this year after many put him in the top ten of A's prospects heading into the season. Started off at AA this season and looked pretty good from the outset. In his first 6 starts of the season he had a 2.78 ERA/1.24 WHIP with 30 Ks/13 BBs in 35.2 IP including 5 of the 6 outings where he gave up only 2 ERs or less. His #s went into a tailspin after that with only 2 what you could all quality outings in his next 7 before he was shut down. He'll turn 25 so he's not that young of a talent either.

Devine-he had issues before coming here so we could've assumed this was bound to happen. But in 08, he set an MLB record for the lowest ERA for a RP that went 50+ IP.

Meloan-had a very good SEP of last season, was a very highly thought of pitcher when he was in LAD's system a few years back but looked as he finally was getting it with the A's and was thought to be in the mix for this season and had TJS even before the season started.
