Just heard on ESPN News that the Giants are interested in Pudge Rodriquez. I'll look for a link, but that raises some questions..
Any thoughts?

Not trying to be condescending - But why would we need Pudge?
I will give it a shot :
Molina must be on his way out after the season - Posey will not be ready in all probability.
P - Rod - what kind of shape is he in?

Pudge has stated he is willing to play first or third. I think he would be terrific at the hot corner, and as a backup to Molina on days off. I'm all for a 1 year deal.
Yeah while watching the baseball classic last night Harold Reynolds was saying the same thing about Pudge. That he could probably play 1st, 2nd or 3rd this stage in his career while filling in at catcher once in awhile.
He seems to be in really great shape still. I honestly wouldn't be against it.

His numbers took a dive last year, and he's never played 3rd. That said, he's the best defensive catcher of all time, and has the arm and reflexes to automatically be our best defensive option at the hot corner without ever playing the position. It looks as though he's in terrific shape and ready to contribute offensively where he faltered last year. I say sign him to a one year deal which would be low risk, very high reward.
Fred Lewis - LF
Randy Winn - RF
Pablo Sandoval - 1st
Ivan Rodriguez - 3rd
Bengie Molina - C
Aaron Rowand - CF
Edgar Renteria - SS
Manny Burris - 2nd
Pitcher spot
thats slightly better, only improvement is pudge over Ishi or Bowker, which really is an improvement, but still not enough to favor us in the division.

Well in my earlier comment in this quote i couldn't understand signing pudge, but if we moved him it would make a lot more sense.
For the record, Pudge was my favorite non-Giant player ever so I would LOVE to have him on this team.

A 1 year deal at a low base with incentives would work for me. Nothing more however.

I'm open to ideas, but really, Pudge as anything more than Bengie's backup is a stretch to me.
I respect Pudge's career, but isn't this the same kind of move that people have been screaming about Sabean making: bringing in a mediocre 37 year old to take time away from our young players.
If you wanna say, OK, he backs up Molina because Holm isn't much of a backup, then I'm OK with it at the right price. But I'm against him starting over Ishikawa or Sandoval at the corners.

I could care less if he takes time away from Ishikawa who is a mediocre talent at best. If we have a chance to be more competitive and even push for the playoffs, it's well worth the risk, imo.
For real, Ishikawa has no future here. I would keep Sandoval at 3rd for practice and put Pudge at 1st because Sandoval will likely stay at 3rd when villalona comes up.

Ishikawa is a 25 year old who is hitting .300 this spring and leading the team in homers. He's a career .277 hitter in limited time. And he has no future here? Maybe, maybe not, kinda early to write him off though.

You make a good point. While certainly not a heralded prospect he should be given some chance before totally being written off. As a minimum he could be a valuable defensive 1b and pinch hitter.
However, I do think signing Pudge at a reasonable 1 year contract cant hurt. Limited risk. Sabean will probably overpay for him!
