that conversation will come up when we play the Rams. Smith saves his best performances for the most inept teams (the ones that all QBs rack up 100+ passer ratings against). Yay.
How many 4th quarter comebacks has he engineered?
300+ yard games?
Wins against teams with a winning record?
Where would Smith be drafted in a 2005 draft redo?
The answer to all of those questions is very depressing.
How many times has the same 15 posters hated on Smith in every thread I go into?
How many posts out of the 50 or so the combined group makes per day are about Alex Smith?
About the same f**king issues that everyone can see?
If Smith sucks against the Saints, he's done, no need for the same people to come in every f**king thread and talk the same s**t that they've been saying for years. If he performs, then he gets another game, period.

I think he has pontential...thats what has kept me hoping he would devolop into a decent QB.But he hasn't lived up to that potential not because he lacks physical skills, but IMO his leadership is what really is at question..Were the head goes the body follows.Smith panics, no pocket presence, and doesn't command his team.

Avid Smith supporters are in more denial than ever. There is no potential there. None, zilch, zero, nada!!!!!! Some are finally accepting it. But that ones that don't keep hanging on because "the entire team didn't play well" theory.
It starts and ends with the QB. If you have a good to great/elite QB everything takes care of itself. Why do you think we lost to Seattle? Better QB. Look at this way
Better WR's-Sea or SF?
Better O-line-Sea of SF?
Better RB-Sea or SF?
Better TE's-Sea of SF?
Better Defense-Sea or SF?
Better QB? Well you saw the answer to that on Sunday. The rest of those things didn't matter.

it kind of makes a difference that we got no pressure on Hasselhoff and they got a ton of pressure on Alex

This thread should be locked we've been talking about Alex Smiths potential for 6 years. Any other team in the NFL would have cut this bum. He is and always will be a system Quarterback that Urban Myer made a lot of money for. He sucks and has the potential to be even suckier

11-Alex Smith: He completed 26 of 45 passes for 225 yards and two interceptions for a passer rating of 52.5. He had too many passes sail high, including on the game-opening drive when he made Josh Morgan jump in the end zone for a pass that did not require a high throw. That allowed Seahawks cornerback Marcus Trufant the opportunity to shove Morgan out of bounds in the end zone before he could get the second foot in-bounds. He threw high to a wide-open Moran Norris on fourth-and-1 from the 6. Missed high and wide to Crabtree on interception that Trufant returned 32 yards for a backbreaking TD at start of third quarter. He did not hit on a pass of more than 20 yards down the field. The protection certainly was not perfect, but he generally had enough time to throw.

The one big thing I noticed was every time he rolled right he was pretty much throwing it out of bounds.
I'm not saying that it is totally on him but he was consistently just chucking it out of bounds regardless of the situation. When you are down big in the second half you have to take chances and try to force things because in the end it doesn't matter if you lose by 20 or 30, a loss is a loss.
This regression was huge because I thought he did a decent job of overcoming it late last season when Raye/Sing weren't using their 3 yards and a cloud of dust philosophy.
He is on a game to game situation now and if he doesn't react to the pressure he is done in the NFL as a starter. I just hope Sing doesn't have some bonehead old school mentality of keeping him in regardless of his performance because he is 'the starter'.

he's the biggest joke of the organization and laughing stock poster boy of the league.
people talk about Alex' ceiling when in fact he's never left the basement to begin with

Well, that is what I worry about the most. Smith will likely play good enough against the Saints to retain his job. He will likely do the same thing against KC and ATL. At that point, we are 4 games into the season, and likely 1-3 or 0-4. I initially thought I would like to give him 4 games because our schedule does start out rough. However, a repeat performance of the SEA game will quickly change my decision.

he was decent in the first half, then completely fell apart in the 2nd half.
yes, his supporting cast didn't play well, but a good/great qb will carry his team and get over that hurdle... seattle gave us numerous chances to beat them, they just capitalized on our mistakes, but we did not (except for the n. clements' pick 3-not pick 6).
hasselbeck did not choke!

It's the usual story with him. He was decent only to fall apart during critical plays which cancelled out any success prior.
I now actually believe he will be a top level QB in terms of his reads but will be a average QB because of his accuracy.
We should just call him, Mr. High Ball

Exactly. Hasselbeck threw a pick on his FIRST PASS of the game. First play of the entire game. They didn't even get a first down till the 2nd quarter when he figured out our defense and made some nice throws.
