Penix is one of the worst QB's when blitzed, who's dumb f**k idea was it to just rush four and NOT blitz Penix? And why the f**k was there no adjustment?
After the dust settled down, I think we can start talking about the silver lining in this game. It's a good thing or a blessing in disguise that we're 6-1 and having a bye and we're finding all the flaws/weaknesses and there's sufficient amount of time to correct/remedy them. Also, we can all agree that Watkins and maybe James should get more snaps to build their skills and confidence. I think between these two, there's a lot of positives. I will also include Prysock to replace Jones so he can start getting his feet wet and gain real time game experience. I'm really sure that this humble eye opening experience will just result with good stuffs and somehow we're going to get a loss anyway and I don't see a better place and time to get it.

I was waiting for more blitzes for sure but alas
I think my main issue with the game is that we should have won it.

Doesn't make sense to doom over this loss. Most of us thought it was a trap game, and it turned out to be, just not for the reasons we had envisioned. Even without all the WRs, we moved the ball almost at will and left multiple scores on the board.

I am stoked for the post-bye 49ers.

What's the pulse in here? Haven't checked all day. Is Purdy a 7th round pick and we're a terrible team again?

Nah we were due for a loss imo. Just too many injuries.

got Joe blows running routes….I was more pissed about the lack of pass rush and all the turnovers

unacceptable

Ya that's bad however I think we need some context, they played to stop bijan (correctly imo). And penix to his credit beat us.

How does that change the narrative of when he's passing he's sitting there in the pocket untouched all day? Penix is dogs**t vs pressure.

They blitz (not sure the %) you gotta get some sort of pressure with your DL though.

they desperately need Bosa back and they can't count on him playing all season as well.

they need a pass rusher bad

I'm not saying the call was wrong because the way the rule is written it was incomplete. You could see the ball moving as he fell to the ground out of bounds. My problem is with the rule itself.

If a player crosses the goal line with the ball in his posssesion it's a TD even if the ball gets knocked out afterward. We've seen that happen many times. Even if the players feet aren't over the line as long as the ball is it's a TD. Why then isn't it a TD if the player has control of the ball after the catch while in the end zone? Why does it matter if the ball moves a little after he's pushed out? He never actually lost control. It never touched the ground. The rule as written doesn't make sense. It's inconsistent. What's even worse is there was an INT by the Falcons where the player had both feet in bounds when he caught the pass but bobbled it as he fell but it was still an INT. Two very similar situations with different interpretations.

This possesion rule needs to be changed so it's consistent. If a receiver has the ball in his possesion while in bounds it should be a catch. The bobbling rule shouldn't be applied once a player is out of bounds. I don't think it should even apply if the player is bobbling it in bounds if the ball doesn't touch the ground. It's a dumb rule that never should have been implemented.

Disagree.

Disagree with what? You think the rule as written is correct? Why? At least make it consistent. This crap about the ball wiggled a little so the pass is incomplete is BS. If the ball actually hits the ground and helps the player control the ball then that's a different story.

Because with how you want to change the rule it would cause a cascade of interpretations to the rules. So if someone catches the ball gets two feet down while running but never fully controlling then bobble it for the next 3 seconds as they run out of bounds it's a catch? There's no easy change to make it a catch. To me it wasn't a catch cause for the longest time it's you have to survive the ground and once a player is touching out of bounds they are out of bounds so therefore they are the same as the ground. Example is fielding a kickoff with a toe out of bounds on the sideline exploit.

They already spend a lot of time trying to decide if the receiver bobbled the ball. It happens after nearly every catch nw. Just make it so if the feet are in and he has possesion it's a catch. Once a player goes out of bounds the play is supposed to be dead but the way they now call it the play continues even after he's out of bounds. Same with a player that's down and a defender touches him. The play is ruled to be over. The player made the catch and then went out of bounds. Play over. He bobbled it after he hit the ground out of bounds not while he possessed it in the end zone.

Too much tme is spent looking at plays under a magnifying glass. The game was fine for years without all the overuse of replay. It hasn't made the game any etter. Actually it's worse now to watch because of the constant stoppage. Fans that like it say it helps them get the calls right but we still have disagreements even after the lengthy reviews. Would football in the 70s and 80s have been better if we were constantly checking to see if a pass was complete? I seriously doubt it. I suppose they'll do away with officials and let AI decide what a completion is in the future.

No doubt ai did see a blitz, I think it was Ashtyn Davis from the left side. But I know it's nowhere near the 30% percent we've seen in past games when they manage to be successful.

The threat of Bijan Robinson running the ball was likely the reason they didn't blitz more. When Robinson gets rolling, he can wreck a game by himself/

I need NFL+ to re-watch that tough, hard-hitting game vs. Denver during this bye week. Am not happy as that's the only game that I somehow failed to record .
How many timed did they get 8-9 yards on 1st down? It seems that would be the time to test Cowens/Watkins. Atlanta has. 2 excellent safties. On 3rd down either run the QB or one of the RB's. Man I'd dig Nelson here!
