My concern with the injuries at WR is that as our core elite players are out, that means opposing DC's can focus on doubling up on our core and reducing targets for Purdy. Purdy to me is amazing at what he does but he needs, like any other QB, a group of core receivers that can do the job. Watkins, its time for him to show up and prove he belongs or for the 49ers to admit that he won't. I was disappointed to see Robinson go out as I felt he was really contributing. Watkins needs to step now and take his place. The question is will he and can he?

Watkins time to show if he is Demarcus Robinson or if he is Ronnie Bell.
Cool

Looks like we're headed to the 12th season in the last 13 of having really "bad luck" when it comes to injuries.

Do we even have room on the IR?

That question was asked to Kyle during this afternoons press conference. I guess there's only so many players that can be designated for return for the entire season. It's not like a fantasy roster where you only have a few stash slots. If I understand it correctly.

There' no limit to how many players can go on IR but they have different levels. Some are season ending and some allow return to action after a certain time. Players placed on IR during the season must stay there for a minimum of 4 weeks. The league allows a maximum of 8 players to return during the season.

There's a rumor that Johnson and Johnson s going to be a new sponsor for the team.

I guess I'll read it slightly different because most of these guys should be returning except for Alf Collins.

I'm looking forward to Mykel returning to practice next week, and the other dudes trickling back in.

Other than WR depth, the timing might work out when these guys return to the active roster. Also our schedule is a little softer right now so reinforcements coming could work out when we really need them.
The 49ers are the OLDEST team in the league.

49ers - 27.49 years

Dolphins - 25.09 years (youngest)

League average - 26 years and 303 days

When you have the oldest team in the league guys get injured. It's a bad strategy. It's not the power station. The average is deceiving. There are lots of 30+ players on this team and some really old guys for pro athletes too. Trent Williams seems to be an obvious example but appears ageless and timeless. He's awesome still. But he's 38. Demarcus Robinson is 32 and currently injured.

It's the same story every year.

30 year old guys aren't the ones that are hurt outside of Robinson and Kirk.

I saw this on the broadcast yesterday and it's the dumbest stat that I've ever seen. We've got a 40 year old long snapper that is calculated in that number. Also a 38 year old Trent Williams. It's not like we have an old and decrepit roster. You take those two out and we are middle of the pack in age.

Completely useless and misleading stat.

Right on par with what we are. OLDEST and MOST INJURED in the league. It must not mean nothing. Because look at our team. The results speak for themselves.

Fortunately or unfortunately, that's what injuries do for the understudy. Are they ready to play or do they need more development or maybe let go. The sooner the coach knows, the better everybody (including the injured player) is. Looking and hoping for Cowing and Watkins to blow the socks off everybody.
