Roster battles are one of the most exciting things to watch as we enter OTAS, TC, and preseason. Thought it would be fun to look at the spots up for grabs and the current crop of players competing for those spots. Sometimes you don't realize how fierce the competition is until you really plot out the guys fighting it out. OFFENSE QB3: Kurtis Rourke, Adrian Martinez (TBH, even though Rourke was a 7th rounder, not sure this will be much of a true competition) RB4: Isaac Guerendo, Patrick Taylor, Jordan Mims, Jemar Jefferson TE3: Luke Farrell, Brayden Willis, Khalil Dinkins, Hayden Rucci LG1/2: Robert Jones, Brett Toth, Connor Colby, Carver Willis C2: Brett Toth, Nick Zakelj, Drake Nugent Swing OT: Vederian Lowe, Austin Pleasants, Enrique Cruz Jr. WR5/6: Demarcus Robinson, Jordan Watkins, Jacob Cowing, Junior Bergen, Will Pauling, Malik Turner DEFENSE DE4/5: Keion White, Sam Okuayinonu, Mikail Kamara, Cam Sample DT5: Bryson Eason, Sebastian Valdez, James Thompson, Evan Anderson LB5/6: Nick Martin, Jaden Dugger, Garrett Wallow, Jalen Graham CB5/6: Jack Jones, Darrell Luter, Jakob Robinson FS1: Jayir Brown, Marques Sigle S4: Siran Neal, Derrick Forrest, Jalen Stroman, Patrick McMorris –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– Comments: Personally rooting hard for Toth to kick Zakelj off this roster. Dude has been horrendous every step of the way, but is clearly one of Forester's favorite pet projects that he couldn't let go of. This year though.. he has a new favorite project: Cruz At CB, I think inside outside versatility can win a job. I think Robinson and Hobbs are the only one that offer this after Lenoir. So IMO we have slot corner three deep, and outside CB depth covered with Hobbs, Robinson and Prysock. If healthy, I think they can push off Luter and Jones.

ya OTA isnt going to be the difference. I actually thought it was a smart move it was a good incentive to the players where if everyone buys in and gets involved (100% reported to OTA) then they will be rewarded

Yeah I leaned on the 100% attendance of OTA for the canceling of the last day.

FIFA is going to be using the field, aren't they? I thought that was why they had perfect attendance, because they wanted to be able to cancel the rest and not have to work around the soccer nonsense.

I'm not exactly sure, but I did hear of that as well so it could be true.

I'm going to be sad if we roll out MM and Brown at safety again. I hope there is some surprises because both players are not starting caliber

I wouldn't give up on MM yet, came back from a torn ACL as well as trying to cover with zero pass rush last year.

Brown scares me but I think our pass rush will be night and day better this year which will take a lot of pressure off the secondary

None of our safeties are free safeties. Sigle appears to have good range but his coverage skills were horrible. Hopefully he improves

Single is somewhat even more frustrating than someone who just sucks. He's in good position about 90% of the time and just has absolutely zero awareness/ball skills to make a play at the catch point

This is sort of related to training camp competition but does anyone know why Cohn is claiming that Christian Kirk is or was injured during OTA's I never saw or heard any other 49er media reporting that, is he an absolute dips**t? That's a rhetorical question. Did he say it cuz he never saw him on the 2 days out of about 12 the media was allowed to watch OTA practices.

Yeah that was more frustrating than watching Brown get absolutely roasted in coverage. I don't know if a person can get taught awareness but I sure hope he develops some. Having a FS with some coverage skills would help the secondary more than anything.
