Once again we come to that time of the year where bragging rights. or should I say "lucky guesses" are up for grabs. Time to PYMWYMI. You can enter or adjust your prognostication up until the first game time. I'll update the list every couple of days. Members only but joining is free, so sign up. Also the Pick-em button is live again. That is a real challenge of NFL knowledge. Last year I wrote that there were more question marks than the previous year. Little did any of us know how many of those questions would go unanswered. Well, this year feels like there are even more questions than in 2024. The WR room is the weakest it has been for a while - will we ever see the real BA again? Will JJ play at a decent level after calf injury? What about Robinson - MVS - Cowing? Can Deebo's role be replaced? The OL is the OL - will Bartch stay healthy and play as he has in splashes? What version of McKivitz will we get? Will Trent hold up for a full season? Can Brendel improve? Can the LB/secondary replace lost starters? What about rookie DL picks? Those are pretty important. The list goes on... This season presents a special challenge with the schedule we will play. Much has been said about this being a "weaker" schedule. I believe that is over-played. We will be dumped into the same barrel as a lot of other teams with a lot of holes to fill. All of them improved their rosters with early draft picks to fill major gaps. Hence, they will likely be much better than their 2024 record. George Kittle thinks so. On any Sunday... OTOH, unlike a lot of teams on our schedule, we have some established stars, that, when healthy, make us a team to be taken seriously. Those guys, including a QB with a forever chip on his shoulder, make this a team to be reckoned with. BYE - will it come too late, or arrive just in time to set up a playoff run? 12/14 - Titans - I hate this game. 12/22 @Indianapolis - Monday night - if they have a QB...? 12/28 - Bears - By then we will know who they are. My wife was pregnant in 2019 Niners won opening day on the road and went to the SB…. She was pregnant in 2023 Niners won opening day on the road and went to the SB… She's currently pregnant and the Niners won opening day on the road… 👀

9-6 and miss the playoffs or out in the first round. Love the Niners but I think there are too many gaps in their team. So even if they make the playoffs, another top tier team will take them out in the first game. I think this team is 1-2 years out and that will depend on how they draft and players that came or go. OL needs to be fixed still IMO. You can't run if you don't have a strong OL regardless of who is your running back. WR is an issue and will be for awhile. Sorry, I am not impressed with our core group of receivers. I like a couple and we'll see but I think that is a weak link right now. Purdy, I think can be good, elite, we'll see. He still needs to prove to me that he can carry the team when it is called upon to do so. I think he has the ability but I question his longevity with this OL and he seems to be injury prone.

Injuries, enough said and probably why they aren't going anywhere imo. They just don't seem physically capable of handling the NFL game without injuries. Seems like the big players get their contract, get injuried and that's it, lights out for the season. Defense may be the key here and that may keep them in some games. Perhaps the Shanahan magic is wearing off and too many in the league have figured out his offense and how to counter it. I hope I'm wrong since they have an easy schedule. IF they struggle with their schedule then we know that even if they make the playoffs, they won't survive against top tier teams. I think the question is do we really believe that the 49ers are a top tier team in the NFL? I would say at this point the burden is on this team to prove that they are. Irate this team a upper mid leve team because of stars, but if the stars can't play . . . are they? So far, defensively I'll say they are starting to make their case after game 1. For the other parts of the team, the jury is out and probably will be for the first 6 games. Let's see where they are come the end of October. Again, hope I am wrong but that is how I see it.

Is that all the people who predicted this year? Really? 4 pages. It's usually much bigger. Also I don't see how people can make predictions after the first game is already over. The season already started and 1 game is already in the bag. LOL.

It's amazing this team is 2 - 0. With the offensive inconsistencies and injures. The struggles and turnover on special teams. It's largely defense carrying us. You can win a lot of games with a good defense and this one is much improved. All the draft capital dedicated, the trade for Bryce Huff, adding Saleh as defensive coordinator, another year of growth for some of the young guys who were here, some of the vets like Warner healing up (broken bone last year). Just looks so much better on defense. Dramatically better at run stopping. Better pass rushing too. More clutch to get off the field when you need it.

Originally I said 7 - 10. Skeptical with the injuries and new young players. But with this start and this defense if I had to re predict I'd say we are at least 10 - 7 good. At a minimum. Maybe better than that. Trending up for sure. You can't really re predict. But upon seeing this team for 2 weeks and our record now despite injuries and new defensive players that's what I see. In addition our offensive line is better with Colby and Pearsall looks real good. Jennings playing great. So good things on that side too.
