The 49ers can place 2 players on IR DR in order to save two roster spots for the initial 53, correct?

IR DR is limited to 8 or 10 players per team per season IIRC depending on making the playoffs.

Matt Maiocco brought up the likelihood the 49ers may go with only 4 WRs for initial 53 with at least 2 of the following 3 WRs being available after the first day, Robbie Chosen, Russell Gage Jr and Isaiah Hodgins.
I don't think they keep 4 TE's. I actually wouldn't be shocked if they only keep 2 knowing that both Tonges and Willis will likely make the PS. But they will go with 3 at most I believe.

I'd like Willis to be #3

Kyle has always shown preferences to TEs, weather warranted or not. I think they keep 4 based on the type of offense they will run this year. Kittle will be used more as a receiver this season.

Correct 60sfan, & those 2 count towards the 8 in season players who can be brought back, 2 more in playoffs.

My final projection for the 53, with injured lists & practice squad, plus 2025 & 2026 salary cap outlook with this roster.

https://49erscap.com/index.php/2025/08/20/my-final-official-2025-49ers-53-man-roster-projection-with-practice-squad-injured-lists-as-well-as-a-look-at-their-2025-2026-salary-cap/

If I was Lynch, I wouldn't waive Junior Bergen, Connor Colby, Drew Moss, & Sebastian Valdez, I think they'd all be claimed, I went with 5 WRs cause no way you waive a player in hopes of clearing waivers & then he gets claimed, see Jarrett Kingston last year, just don't do it, players like that have to go through waiver, while players like Gage, Hodgins, Chosen don't go through waivers, so you keep the younger players so you don't lose them, then you have a handshake agreement to sign the guys who don't go through waivers to the PS, but that's my philosophy.

I know Chase Lucas is a tough one cuz he's pretty much a slot CB and we have two guys there already who seem to be special and may need more guys for outside CB but he's been absolutely balling in preseason so very hard to see him not getting picked up. I think he still would go through waivers right?

I also keep hoping for Luter to step up and take the job on the outside but he's been pretty inconsistent. I'd rather hold onto either Lucas or Robinson…both of whom I think wouldn't slip past other teams.

I also think guys like Wilson Jr should be handshake deals to keep young players on the roster or sneak guys onto IR lists to come back later(like Kevin Givens)

Definitely think Russell Gage and maybe Chosen will be that way as well.

Come on, you know better than that. The final projection is the day before the 53 comes out officially.

I agree. I would always rather keep a young guy who has potential to be better than a veteran.

Moore wasn't going to make the Chiefs, no guarantee he wins a spot with the 9ers. I think it comes down to how the health of the other WRs is projected. Like Cowing had a twinge in his hamstring after 2 weeks off ... does that mean they think he needs 2 months off or just 2 weeks to get to 100%?
