Ha. It's not really stupid tho. The owners are milking the players dry with this latest CBA. Issues like these are their only way of fighting back.

I mean we've got collusion going on to save money while these guys are bashing each other's brains out. Given the physical risk, more of these guys should be getting GTD money but it's kinda reserved for upper-echelon players as we move to 18 games.

Caved in the sense that he was the first one to take a deal in the 2nd round that wasn't 100% guaranteed.

Yes it's not like he shouldn't be happy with the bump from last year but when the only two other guys signing this year got 100% guaranteed anything less is a win for the team and the player making the call to take less than others.

Now as I said, hopefully everyone ahead of him holds out for 100%

None besides wishful thinking from fans imo, but its all pure speculation either way.

Imo if anything Id say its slightly more likely the Niners wanted a rookie they need to play a lot this year on a completely new Dline, to get in the building ASAP

But again, it's just speculation. I do think many want a feel good type story about how our guy is the one who wanted to not be "greedy" and take one for the team as opposed to money. Its like a moral dopamine hit.

It's speculation either way. Your opinion isn't any more important than mine or anyone else's here.

What we do know is Alfred was the first player in the 2nd round to take a deal less than 100% guaranteed.

Hard to imagine an agent suddenly saying "let's just take 88% guaranteed" when literally the only precedent set so far was 100% guaranteed.

We likely won't know what happened so yes it's all speculation. But I think if we're looking at it logically it smells more like Collins making the call vs the agent. But of course that's just my opinion and you're welcome to have yours.

Nothing proven either way of course but given the fact that he was the first 2nd round pick to sign after the holdup with everyone waiting for the fully guaranteed money, I would imagine he put the pressure on knowing how important camp reps would be for his playing time this year.

Or the 49ers front office and the agent realized a 10% bump was enough.

thats kinda my point, really. if you want to position it as a player who wants to start on the right track, then there were a couple of players who signed before him. so I guess he wanted to start his career on the right track, but not quite as fast like those players ? lol

to me its really irrelevant. its all a part of business and as long as the guy is in the building when TC starts it doesnt matter who and what and how. Id even get it if someone misses out on TC because they want a bit more and they think they can get it. which is usually handled by agents anyway.

I dont see any reasoning to say that it was the player out of his sheer will to get right to work, aside from him being a 49er. If he wasnt a 49er, do you think many on here would say that ?

As mentioned Collins was the first to sign from non 100% guaranteed in the 2nd.

He also hadn't practiced at all before training camp cuz of the contract/injury and he knows he's got a starting job opportunity that will likely pass him by if he's not out there getting as many practice reps as he can get.

I said it before he signed that it was critical for him to get out there for the first practice. He made sure the contract wasn't going to keep him from it.

Now hopefully he stays healthy and that calf isn't an issue and he shows us we got a steal in the big man.

Certainly possible. I'm just saying the only contracts signed at the time were 100% guaranteed. Each contract is slotted in terms of money. His agent would have every right to wait to see if the trend continues.

Either way he's signed so that's really all that matters.

What was it like $1 mill of his contract that isn't guaranteed? Seems to me like he still "won" lol

Realistically he was likely already offered all but $2M guaranteed, and unless he's a disaster he was going to get all of it regardless. It's a trivial distinction in most ways.

To be fair the players make more money with more games too. It's always a give and take. The CBA is really just in the margins.

"He made sure" ... it's just pure speculation.

I just don't see any reason to believe one way or the other as if it's a fact. I think the odds are slightly against the deal getting done because Collins made his agent do it.

I agree that all that matters is that he's healthy and in camp.

These tit-for-tat scuffles that really "shouldn't be" are mainly due to the things discussed.

12 2nd round picks have signed, the only one earlier in the 2nd than Collins was the 3rd pick in the 2nd and he got a fully guaranteed deal. The other 8 were after Collins and none of them got a fully guaranteed deal.

yes but it looks like the ratio of guaranteed money is going up as compared to previous years,....which is important as well.

Next year, expect the same.

And that was the case before this as well. What I find funny is "experts" who don't seem to realize that the total contract amount was never up for negotiation. :)
