The vast majority of the time the agents have been in the players ear non-stop and the team is limited in the messaging they can give to the kids. The VAST VAST majority of the time in pro-sports contract issues are entirely created by agents. The agencies actually work together to manipulate teams and the league and the media to their personal gain, it's just allowed because it generally (but not always) benefits the players too.
Every once in a while a player steps up and tells their agent what they want the agent to do, but it's rare.
