Oh, the fuss here about Frank Gore's knees was extreme! With both legs done there was a large body of opinion that we had just wasted a 3rd!

Sure, but don't miss the point that drafting a player with an "injury history" does not make it a bad pick. The list of players with an "injury history" who then go on to be great pros is huge as is the list of "healthy" players who get injured early and often and end up having empty careers.

Don't think Collins ever missed a game cuz of injury.

I don't even remember how the conversation got here ... don't think it had anything to do with Collins though :)

Thank goodness, I was going to scroll back a few pages to find out what bad news I missed.

Ditto!
Did he sign?
As far as I can tell, he is the only draft pick who has not signed his contract.

With the 49ers...

Still no 2nd round pick outside of the first 2 have been signed. 4

Yep. I think CJ West was the last one so far to sign, leaving just Collins. Which is a shame.

So what exactly is going on this year with 2nd round picks not signing? They just want more guaranteed money? I don't remember seeing a sit out from 2nd rounders before, how did they all decide to just do it this year?

Because for the first time ever Round 2 Pick 1 got a fully guaranteed contract

Round 2 Pick 2 asked for the same and got it

So guess what everyone after is doing...

Cleveland is a major reason why QBs get majority guaranteed contracts too (give a hand to Watson everyone)

Bad teams screw up the entire league by setting bad precedent

*although I should clarify i believe all nfl contracts should be fully guaranteed and injuries should offset the cap hits

I really hope that the remaining 30 teams all stick together and do NOT give guaranteed money contracts to their 2nd round players. Anyone following a trend set by the Browns is crazy. It's a waiting game....who will blink first? For players opting to not sign in 2025....would the team own their rights for next year....and if they sit out this year then would they still have to play for the team that drafted them 4 full years even if they skip this year? Or are they eligible to re-enter the draft again next April?
"...the rookie pay scale doesn't guarantee a prospect will sign his contract. No one can force a player to do so. In theory, a rookie could refuse to sign, sit out the entire season, and re-enter the draft the following year. When an NFL team drafts a player, they don't retain the rights to that player indefinitely. The onus is not exclusively on the player — it's on the franchise as well. Both sides must come to an agreement. If they cannot do so, a team's rights to a player expire when the new league year begins, allowing that player to return to the draft player pool."

It would be a risky move to sit out and re-enter the draft. More than likely the player will be re-drafted at a lower slot as teams fear difficult contract negotiations. Also, it will add calendar time to getting to that second contract, so teams seem to have leverage.
