#49ers Mykel Williams had some cartilage damage in his knee and the team wanted to play it safe, which is why they ultimately placed him on the IR, per John Lynch pic.twitter.com/qLzPx7UPuI

This isn't new information. They mentioned he also had meniscus damage when the injury first happened. I think they're only bringing it up to show the timeline is longer than some other straight forward ACL tears.

Nobody's psychic, but John Lynch seemed pretty sure he will be

The problem is this team has a history of being disingenuous with their injury reports so I can't blame people for being nervous.
We've seen tightness and soreness be nothing and be SOMETHING.
As someone on twitter put it we've seen CMC deal with tightness and miss most of the season while not looking anywhere near his usual self with it and we've seen CMC deal with tightness and put up one of his best seasons with it.
Unfortunately we just have to sweat it out until week 1 and see what we have. The sad reality is if we suffer another injury riddled season with our key guys getting hurt we will not make the playoffs with the schedule we have so we need to hope we find a way to avoid those impact injuries.
As for Mykel I'm really excited to see him back, whenever that is. I think he was really starting to come on strong right as he got hurt and just his presence on the edge will help the run D and his push as a pass rusher will help as well.
A pass rushing 5 DL rotation of Height, Osa, Halton, Mykel and Bosa will cause some havoc.
The word I would use is incompetent if anything.

He will be eligible to start practicing Week 3, and be able to play if healthy in Week 5. We'll get a clearer picture around that time.

Personally I'm also hoping we rest Kittle and spare him the long journey to Australia- have them ready for the games back in the US. I know it's a divisional game but it's a long, physical season and there's no point overdoing it on a long haul trip to Australia.
Would much rather we are getting stronger as the year progresses than to shoot our bolt too early with unnecessary risk.

Ummm... Like you probably want to see and notice and fix that the FIRST TIME you do the surgery. This team man. Done for the year already. Another Ricky Pearsall.

The team still might do that. We will see how Mykel feels after four weeks. There's no reason to rush him back.
