That's true for all teams with a quality starting QB.

I agree. I don't know what fans expect from a backup. Unless you drafted a highly touted guy in the first round it's unlikely that any team has a good backup that isn't going to be a huge dropoff in talent. In the NFL if you lose your starting QB your season is probably over.

Let's look at it a different way. Jones is a good enough QB2 that it's POSSIBLE some other team will give him another chance in a couple years. As opposed to some scrub backups who nobody wants.

Unless that team is so good overall that with a suffcient backup they can still "hold serve" and if/when the starting QB comes back, well, they go on and win it all.

Jones is strictly a number 2. It's amazing he got the Patriots to the playoffs his rookie year. Looks like he has cement shoes on when he scrambles if you can call it that.

So ... basically Sam Darnold from 3 years ago.

The point isn't whether he's going to be a star QB or not, but if he shows enough someone else may want to take a swing at him ... that's what you want in a backup QB :)

Hopefully Kurtis Rourke is so good the 49ers will get a comp pick when he is signed away :)

I remember when he was drafted many 49er fans wanted them to stay put and pick him at #12. They would have saved a cou[le 1st round picks but they still wouldn't have gotten their QB.

Really? Maybe wait and see how the line works out. Two thirds of the way through the pre seasons may be rather early to make such a sweeping statement.

Holy s**t, have you not watched this team and the oline the past few years? If you don't see how brutal this current OL is and just how much this team has refused to make it a priority, then you need to rewatch the tapes.

It's like some of you just won't admit it until you see Brock go down like Theisman or Alex Smith.

The Browns are likely to cut either Sanders or Gabriel. I think both are younger better versions of Mac Jones. Something to evaluate anyways.

When Sanders dropped out of the 1st round we were talking about how bad his meetings must have gone. So bad that teams are going to be really slow to add him to their QB room. If the 49ers added him he would not take Mac's spot ... and them not having any "spare" roster spots makes me think it really unlikely.
