49ers sign QB Mac Jones

Only way I trade him if we are getting close to the trade deadline and we are out of it and someone wants to give a second round pick. Otherwise I wait to the off season and see if we can get a 3rd round comp pick.

There's still little to no market for Mac Jones. No team views him as more than a stopgap solution, and the only midseason trade I can see is to a team that loses a qb to injury and that is strong enough without a QB to contend. There's very few of these teams. Texans are probably one of the very few if Stroud is out, and even then they probably save the draft picks and just go with Davis Mills instead.

There was no market for Mac Jones as a starter before the Niners signed him to a backup two year contract worth two packs of ranch flavored corn nuts and a mountain dew.

There is still no market for him. You can argue for a Sam Darnold arc, but Sam Darnold's arm talent and mobility are in another universe from Mac's. Arm and mobility kept Darnold in the league.

I dont think its that people think he CAN fetch us a 1st. I think it's that they feel it's only worth trading him if we do get a 1st.

At least that's how I feel. I in no way expect a 1st for him. But I dont think id do it for anything less. If a team was willing to part with a significant pick for him its because they're a good team. So we are talking a later in the round pick. We haven't exactly shown that we know how to use these picks. That's the main reason I wouldn't trade him if the opportunity presented itself.

I would take a 2nd or even a 3rd rounder for him if it was late in the season. Say like after game 12 or so. By then they'll have more time with Rourke and have a better feel for whether he can handle things if Purdy gets injured. They'll also know if they're still in contention by then. Jones is amost certain to leave when the season is over so they might as well get somethng for him. His compensatory pick could be anywhere from 3-5 depending on how much he signs for and how much playing time he gets this year.

The Colts last year are the example of what would need to happen to get a 1st, just by week 9.

But no team in contention for a top 5 pick will trade for him(any round), and any GM that proposes it should fired on the spot.

Agreed. I would take it anytime though; not just late in the season.

people are crazy if they think Shanahan would be comfortable with a "rookie" QB2 going into the postseason

Probably going to get as good a comp pick after Mac is signed elsewhere than we would trading him midseason. I just don't see Mac fetching a 2nd, especially in the upcoming draft.

Colts would be the only team that'd likely be interested if Jones got hurt just for the fact Ballard would be desperate to keep his job. Bad season and the whole org is gone.

What we had in 2021. Had that starting in 2022.

Draft pick would have to be valuable enough to consider it. Likely not to be.

It would be unbelievable if the 49ers first SB win in 32 years was with Mac Jones starting. Would mean Shanahan put on a coaching clinic.
