Do we need to re-tool or Full rebuild?

Retool key positions with foundational players that are durable with little or no injury history. Guys that will cut a pinky off to prevent missing plays. Guys that can play through dings because the nfl is a full contact sport. Several of these iron men are needed because their leadership is infectious.
We have players now, but in general we are the most 'sensitive' group of statistically in the league over the past 5-7 years.
Reform. Refurbish. Reinvent
The 49ers are benefiting from a NFL where ALL the playoff teams have a glaring weakness. The 49ers to stay competitive need to invest in the OL, the DL and in some more defensive players. I also think they are going to need to retool in receivers depending on what Juan Jennings does in the free market. This is a great team offensively right now, not so good on defense as the Bears showed. To win in the playoffs you need a defense that can do its job and make 8-10 stops a game so your great offense can do its thing and score and not have the back and forth we've had lately. Thank goodness the offense has carried us this far, however there are pieces that need to be added but that is for the off season. For now, just one game at a time, just one game at a time which I've been saying for awhile.

The pieces most needed are a healthy Nick Bosa and Mikel Williams.

...and Fred.

The one glaring weakness in the secondary is the lack of a ball-hawking Safety that can cover. All our current Safeties are more box-safeties that are good against the run but get lost on deep balls.
Bumping this thread again since it seems like some folks are forgetting the expectations going into this year...and that was with the assumption that we would have our best players out there and Brandon Aiyuk coming back mid season.

Because I know there will be at least one guy on here claiming the 49ers choked if they don't manage to win Sunday.
I think we retool. That said, I have almost zero faith in the Niners ability to draft unless major changes are implemented. With that doubt lingering, I'd try to mend the fence with the Raiders and offer them Mac Jones, our first and second rounders for Max Crosby.

We then focus on two linebackers in the middle rounds and LG and FS in the later rounds.

Id then try to nab a veteran established WR in free agency.
We finished 12-4 and will have a third place schedule!
Rebuild on D needs to continue into next year. Offense could still use Oline help but the D needs to get better in the front 7/6

Need to get better at every level.

They are bad against the run too. They hit hard but don't wrap up and take terrible angles. Letting Hufunga go looks bad now. Hindsight is 20/20
At this Point Just Move the Team to Canada or Mexico
Sorry to be a downer but still recovering from the Trey trade, we are now drafting 1st round talent to tool up the dline/front 7/skill position but only half the 1st rounders work out and we missed on 3 years basically. Should see better talent and salary cap balance now

yup this is where i am at too. This year draft has a lot of great S prospects i really jope we take one its the missing piece on D i think our DL will be fine with everyone healthy although added depth and a pass rush specialist wouldnt hurt

Fred, Bosa and Mykel Williams are all huge losses for the run D, it's reasonable to expect that with the growth of Collins and West we might be fine as a run D.
