hopefully the example of Pearsall's forgiveness will influence this kid to change his life.
Doubt it. Chances are the kid will get out and murder an innocent victim next. Strongly disagree with the judge. But it is par for the course in CA.
For background: Long ago I was an advocate for addicts who were trying for recovery (made sure they made their court dates, met their requirements for probation or parole, picked them up if the came to in a bad place, was a sponsor) in Oakland when it was REALLY bad in the late 80s and 90s. I am for more police and for more people put in prison than let back on the street casually like we have now, because it's somehow getting as bad or worse than it was back then and I thought it would never get that bad again. But that said, our prison system is wildly broken and the way it works it actually programs criminals to get out and commit more crimes.
That said, I've seen people who are 5, 10, 15, 20 felonies in get turned around by someone standing up for them. Ricky has probably seen the effect giving someone another chance has had on kids.
I know how I would change our prison system but this is not the place for it.
Lmao
