Messers Lott, Williamson, and Wright did okay as rookie DBs in 1981.
Yes they did. But they also were able to spend as much as 500 hours from the draft to the start of the season with George Seifert and Ray Rhodes learning the job and to play as a unit. Current rookies get around 10 hours working directly with coaches outside of team time.
Ronnie said they considered having Seifert kidnapped so they could get a break :)
The NFLPA and agents have negotiated time down and down and down. It's easier on the players, but it also means the players average being less prepared physically and mentally than they used to be.
