The Falcons D made 2 AMAZING plays on defense, and on the first one, Cowing just quit on the play on stopped running the sideline. Purdy also threw slightly high and behind Watkins on a big completion over the middle that might have been a TD if he leads him in stride, and missed Watkins another 1-2x.

Then there was the refs screwing Watkins on what should have been a TD on an absolute dime by Purdy at the pylon and another big completion that Watkins couldn't secure through the play.

Still, Purdy threw for 288 yds, 20 points and had them in position to go for the win at the end of the game. If 3-4 plays go differently, its the difference between a sub par game and a heroic performance.

Not a good game for Purdy, but literally every aspect of the team played sub par today. Let's not forget back to back fumbles by the RB's, fumble by Kittle, and only 3 pressures by the DL on 34 drop backs.

I laughed a bit at the bolded. That was the correct call however we feel about the rule itself.

Still a good throw by Brock, and an almost great catch.
I mean Bates was able use the turf to secure his INT so it's really whatever ever the ref is feeling like at the moment

We still kept it close due to many mistakes and not having a full squad

the bye came at the right time

Never liked the rule but you're right that the refs did call it correctly if you go by the book. The rule needs to be changed. Football should be determined on the field and not in a replay booth. I enjoyed the game so much more in the years before the constant replays. Sure they got some calls wrong but we lived with it. It was part of the game and we didn't need to sit through more TV commercials while they decided if a catch was a catch.

Also I'd like to see any QB have a good game with their top 5 WRs missing. We'll probably never get a chance to see that since that only seems to happen to us.

"Content creator" is such a loose term. 99% of these content creators:

1) Haven't played football at ANY competitive level- not even high school- to understand what coaches/teammates expect of their QB, what a players job is on any given play or what even happened.

2) Have long ago chosen to die on the hill that "Purdy is an overrated system QB propped up by Avengers", so any time Purdy has bad plays, loses or doesn't have a good game, they jump like rabid dogs at a chance to claim their "Ah ha!" moment.

I don't care if you're Montana, Brady, Manning, Mahomes.... a QB NEEDS playmakers around him. I say this as someone who has always thought Mahomes is in the GOAT conversation, but even him, without any legitimate weapons, looks like ass. The Chiefs have failed to surround him with WR talent since they lost Tyreek, and his production has absolutely nose dived. I still believe Mahomes is a great player and competitor, but it's pure idiocy to expect QB's to make plays when WR's are faililng to get open and secure catches.

Great QB's have bad games. Purdy didn't have a good game, but it's not this nuclear meltdown of a bad game that people are making it out to be.

D Robinson and Deebo will be back after the bye, I'm hoping Evans will too, and shortly after Stribling will be part of the show... Call this game what it was, tip your hat to the Falcons and move on.

What's the problem with this play exactly? This is likely a completion to Cooks if Cooks and Kittle didn't run into each other.

He missed Watkins for what should have been a TD.

I don't know what Brock's read or progression was on this play, but Cooks should be open and it's likely a completion if Cooks doesn't run into Kittle.

I saw jonneydel talk a little bit about this play on Twitter.

I agree. I wasn't too sour on that one, could have gone either way, but by technicality, it is what it is. You hope the refs let it go, but you can't cry foul if they don't.

I have long been a big Watkins supporter, in the face of his criticism- I predicted he would end up with 90 yds and TD and silence his critics and earn more playing time. Well, if he comes down with those 2 passes, he would have exceeded that, and that's not even counting the couples plays he was screaming open and Brock missed him, or the play Purdy hit him but would have been much bigger if he hit him in stride.

So the silver lining in all this is.... Watkins has some considerable TALENT. Criticize him for not finishing those plays, but I don't think you crucify him for it and give up on developing him. He's got home run speed, can get open and for the most part has reliable hands, those are just difficult catches for anyone to make.

Just a followup. The replays take longer than the actual play. Typical game has about 11-15 minutes of action. Replays take about 17 minutes. Commercial break about one hour.

I personally agree with this rule, especially with how tilted everything is towards offense. To make this catch legal you have to change the entire definition of possession and/or ignore what happens when a player is out of bounds. Neither is a good thing.

didnt like his performance. moved the chains but failed to distribute the ball adequately, had 2 bad interceptions with no one to blame than himself. definitely not an mvp showing

Brock said he was looking at Kirk. Haven't seen an all - 22 view from behind the play, but in the couple of broadcast highlights that were behind the play it looked like he was looking at Kirk the whole way.

Cowing still could have done something, instead he walking like he gave up on life

mmm no
he has been a top 8 qb since rookie year and is having a top 3 season
hopefully his jump continues until being the best in the game, but yesterday he wasnt good. there are a lot of reasons sure, but the 2 ints were awful plays by him, not like i am talking about a dropped pass or a failed route

He missed Watkins for what should have been a TD.

I guess you missed the interview with Brock where he said he only sees about 60% of what's going on downfield and the other 40% of the time he has to anticipate where his receiver is going to be and throw to that spot. Maybe he didn't trust that Watson would be there, maybe he didn't actually see him, not having the benefit of watching the replays or all-22 while he's in the middle of a play.

I don't think there is any doubt that Brock likes to push the ball downfield when he sees and opportunity to do so. The operative word there being "see". Technically speaking, I don't think you can miss what you don't see. The idea that a QB should be able to spot every open receiver on every play and make every throw is a bit absurd.

Sucks that they lost but that's the way it goes sometimes. The have a week to rest up and maybe get some guys back with the Raiders waiting on the other side of the bye. Their schedule gets a little tougher after that on paper but they're still in the driver's seat in their division. Go Niners!

Tends to happen when people see somebody running open with no regard for coverage or what the play is intended to do.
We owe Brock an apology for putting that sorry team on the field. James, Cooks, Cowing, Kirk are all beyond scrubs
Does anyone have any insight on the deep pass to Watkins that was converted for 35ish yards?

I just can't get over that play. It happened on the drive we ended up with zero points.

Seemed to be an easy touchdown if Brock leads him like you would expect any QB to do in that situation.

Why did Brock throw it straight to Watkins' spot?
