QB Brock Purdy Thread

Montana, Tom, Brock are more cerebral type players that display finesse and thoughtful use of their bodies, the bigger guys can rely too much on physicality to get things done. If Brock had Allen's body, would it mean we would have the perfect qb? I wouldn't be fast to say yes on that. I think there is a certain drive that "smaller qbs" have because they are aware of their size and how that plays a part.

But I am not sure why the strong focus on the arm size when goats like Montana, Brees, Brady all were "smaller" in structure.

i brought this up a long time ago it was actually during the Mac Jones vs Trey Lance vs Fields debate

Where people were really against Mac jones because of his arm but one of my arguments was that as long as you have a B arm but can read defenses well and have great accuracy and ball placement there really is no ceiling. Brock is the best post snap processor i have seen in a long time that is what Brady excelled in (compared to Peyton who was good at that but was better pre snap processor)

The best thing about having Purdy play so well is to see the various butt-hurt draftniks and nerds tie themselves in knots trying to explain how wrong they have been all along. The Herbert-truthers are the best, though I will always have a soft spot for the Dak-believers too (the tragedy is that Prescott seems to be a good egg as a person. But he ended up playing for the worst team of all).

Chris Simms still trying to give it all to Shanny to cover up his pre-season QB rank of 17 for Brock is funny

How is Chris Simms so unbelievably bad at everything? I mean he's probably a nice guy and I understand he respects Kyle and they're friends. But his dad was one of the better quarterbacks in the league when he played. Chris was a disappointment and underachiever at best at Texas. Bust in the NFL. And it's like, okay, for some guys for various reasons a playing career didn't quite pan out as anticipated. But they become good/credible coaches or media personalities. For Chris, I guess not even so much with that.

Been waiting for a QB to yell at Kyle like this since he became our coach lol. LFG, Brock!

Damn Hell yeah Brock

That may not be exactly what happened. Kyle said it was a "send it in again, I didn't get it" thing.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: When all is written, said and done, Brock Purdy will be in the GOAT conversation.

He needs a ring first to be in the conversation

One ring won't necessarily do it. Several QBs have won a SB and they aren't in the HOF.

It's actually pretty simple. Scouts and fans can see a players size. They can see a guy with a strong arm. The cerebral part of the game is much harder to measure. You can't really tell by watching college ball because the game is quite different. College QBs don't need to be able to process as quickly becuse they aren't facing defenses nearly as good as they see in the NFL. That's one big reason those QBs were all passed over in the early rounds. The guys with the physical tools get drafte dearly because teams hope they can become an NFL QB. They envision a guy with Allen's physical tools and Brock's or Montana's mental part. It rarely happens because the guys with the tools want to use them instead of their brain.

You can understand why they think that way though. Imagine Josh Allen with Brock's discipline and abiity to process. Unstoppable.

The issue with Mac was never the arm strength per se, it was he wasn't great at anything. My big issue at the time was there is a Mac Jones in every draft and that all the talent around him made him look better than he was.

Both points were borne out in the NFL.

Aaron is going to HOF for sure. Stats likely push him over the edge.
Sometimes I think there is a "popularity" element to it as well.

4x MVP. Probably the greatest pure passer ever.

correct. I am not against at all. just adding perspective.

but I do agree with others Brock will need at least 1 ring to even be considered.
