QB Brock Purdy Thread

If people actually watch the first half with Evans, and the second half without Evans, it should not hurt him at all. However, that is not the reality with a lot of people.

Tom Brady or Joe Montana, or pick who ever you want, nobody is going to put up any kind of numbers with the top 6 wideouts on the roster. This situation is beyond insane.

I saw some people going crazy after the game(it's really annoying btw) don't mind people giving criticism but keep it together.

Once Mike went out of the game here were the results of each drive.

Finished that drive with a TD
Started our drive on our 21 yard line - drive stalled on the Washington 14 yard line after a batted ball on 3rd down. He had Cooks for the TD if the ball goes through btw.
3 and out - Kittle should've come down with the ball for first down on a really good play by Brock.
3 and out - sack on 2nd down with nobody blocking their edge rusher
3 and out - we're trying to kill the clock and burn their timeouts

It may not have been pretty but it certainly doesn't hurt his MVP chances either.

Allen has a crap game and somehow it doesnt effect his MVP running.

I am not here for the double standard.

I think Brock is making a strong case.

I don't follow this thread as there's not much to know about the guy. He's good. For you football intellectuals here's a(really) good expose:

https://www.natesilver.net/p/is-brock-purdy-the-nfls-best-quarterback

My passion on the subject is his protection so that he can best continue to thrive for the next 10 years. I'd go after Quenton Nelson while Shanahan develops the other skill players. Two more games before the trade deadline to decide if the pass rush is good enough or do they stop messing around and go for Mack or Buckner. Develop the defense with high draft picks and pay for offensive veterans who'd be attracted to play in this offense. They might work cheaper as winning takes a priority over the bag they've already earned.
Purdy actually played even better in the first half than the stats showed. Soo many miscues by other players while we were rolling on offense. Sucks what happened in the second half to kind of down play what he did in the first half.

Don't think he played bad in the second half, but it seemed like he didn't want to pull the trigger and attempt to throw a pass to the backup WRs. Sometimes you just got to try it and see if they can make a play or not. Better than just hanging around in the pocket waiting for a sack or forcing it to CMC or Kittle.

Yup. I was more disappointed with the playcalling on the final 3 drives rather than purdy execution. Pretty bland cookie cutter calls against hyped up defense primed to overrun everything.

Lol

Appears Shannan really doen't trust Cowing or Watkins.

Been waiting for a QB to yell at Kyle like this since he became our coach lol. LFG, Brock!

I do disagree. If Shanahan did not trust these two, they would not be on the field. Shanahan does not play guys who cannot cut it.

What does concern me is Purdy's relationship with Watkins. As in, lack of. Watkins catches every ball Purdy throws to him. He is also pretty good on YAC. But Purdy rarely pulls the trigger on the Watkins option and I am not sure as to why.

He is open. WIDE open. He passed him up on one play to Kittle last night. Purdy did hit Kittle on a nice 15-18 yard completion last night, so no complaints there. Yet a replay showed Watkins was the deep option on this play. He was WIDE OPEN. Had Purdy layered the ball in there, it could have been six easy points.

Yet Purdy did not do this. The team would score its third and final TD on this drive, so there were no missed opportunities. But it does mask an issue. Watkins was open. Wide open. But Purdy chose to go elsewhere.

Who else can he play right now?

I thought the same way on that.

Dude the top 6 WRs if healthy were out lol. You can only do so much. It's not much different than Kyle having issues with Aiyuk when he first got into the league but he had to play him cuz of injuries.

Watkins I think is getting more trust from Kyle just based on snap counts but my guess he would still be inactive if the other guys were healthy. And guys off the street or trade even aren't guaranteed great additions either. Cooks is a vet and you'd think he'd be a plug and play type of player but he's still having issues running this offense which is kind of crazy. 2nd year player shouldn't be the more trusted guy out of a vet like Cooks and a 3rd year player in Cowing.

Even if Kirk is active on Sunday I don't know what we're getting with him. He's been around for a while but obviously hasn't gotten much work with Brock being out all of training camp. We definitely need someone to step up. George is still awesome but he's not the player he was for whatever reason. Gotta find a way until Mike is back.

As for Watkins which plays in particular do you think Brock should've thrown to him and didnt? I haven't gone back to look at the game yet but it was going to be one thing I checked.

Perhaps it will just take time. Plus, a few well-designed play calls from Shanahan specifically designated for Watkins. I do not think Evans will be able to play next week. He is just beat up. If Evans was a pair of Purdy sneakers, there would be holes in them from overuse.

Atlanta will probably choose to double up on Kittle in response. Why not take away the QB's second-favorite option? So, maybe Watkins will earn a little trust then? I do not know.
Brock and Jordan gotta get on the same page. Whenever he does get targets he catches them for positive plays. With Mike most likely not playing this week this is the perfect opportunity to give him a chance. Can't force feed it to Kittle every play

(Looks at CMC checking in with 9 receptions)
