He may have ran the correct route, and Brock threw it away. the little awkward shuffle looked like he put his body in the defenders way to shield the catch.

It may have just been a well executed pre snap disguise by a very good defense.

Not necessarily saying it was the wrong route. I'm saying it was terrible execution on Cowing's part, whatever the route was supposed to be.

He literally did a 360 (or more like a 270) at the top of the route. Brock could have believed he was going to break outside with the nature of that spin.

I haven't looked at any film of the game, and probably won't, but I'm putting that play on him until shown otherwise.

He did one thing great, which was throw to an open guy with a lightning quick release. Combined with good accuracy over the middle, it's no surprise why he put up some decent numbers. Kyle squeezed the most out of his talents, but this offense was clearly limited while Jimmy was at the helm.

For sure. And he was willing to take hits too. He definitely had some skill, and that's why Kyle was able to use him successfully.

First, i quoted you because you were the last comment, not singling you out.

Anyways, i am not certain the route would not have been designed that way. They run so many whip routes, i could see them designing one off a comeback route. Especially if the comeback is at the 1st down marker, heavily encouraging jumping the route.

Joe Steve and Brock are in the elite class of 49er qbs. The rest were a mixture of good and average while others like Jimmy G were awful especially in the post season. He was either broken on the sideline or breaking our backs with sacks and ints.
this one is kind of crazy,.... he's in a league of his own

It sucks we have so many WRs injured. And now Juice. Just hoping Deebo stays healthy.

Brock has seen some very good defenses so far. Now he will see the best. Reminder, last 2 games against the Seahawks, no TDs. Time to get that monkey off our back!

QBR is a dumb stat that ESPN makes up and doesn't even reveal the formula for so that they can push narratives.

I said it when Purdy's QBR wasn't great, and I'm saying it now.

I prefer career passer rating. Still not perfect obviously but at least the formula is transparent and actually known. Purdy is also #1 in this stat.

Yeah they need to make QBR Open Source.

Revisionist. He helped a losing team learn to win again. He was a good quarterback. There were a lot of fun games with him, after years of mediocrity and misery. Why can't people respect anymore?

Couldn't agree more. Jimmy was an above average QB who had his limitations. Nearly got us a Lombardi. Let the hate go. Those trashing him just sound like someone bitter after a hard breakup. Jimmy is a part of the reason why the Niners are where they are currently.

I never cared for him during that time. (always thought he played panicked)

But looking back I could not agree more with you guys.

Two things can be true:

1. Jimmy took this franchise out of the gutter and into contention. He was 110% worth the trade and the contract. He played fairly well and had some very good games.

2. Jimmy was a worse QB than Purdy, he was absolutely abysmal in all the playoff games (including the ones we won), he couldn't stay consistently healthy, the team traded for Trey Lance for a reason, and he couldn't do anything once he left the team.

I appreciate everything Jimmy did for us. But moving on from him was the right move. We couldn't keep clinging on to "just good enough" in hopes of finally actually winning the Super Bowl just because we almost won it with him.
