It depends on how many QBs you include in that top tier. That could be 5, 10 or 15. He's not top 5 but he may be edging into the top 10. If you go just by stats then he is. I don't rely much on stats because they can really be affected by the coach, scheme and receivers . QB rating for example is the worst way to evaluate a QB. That's a stat made for fantasy football leagues. You can have a high rating just by completing a high percentage of short throws and avoiding INTs. You can also have alower rating even though you throw for 350 yards and a coiple TDs if you have an INT or two.

When we see rankings for QBs they're usually based on physical things liked arm strength and size. This is why Brock is often not in the top 10. The fact is there's no real way to decide who is and isn't in the top 10 or whatever. It's usually just subjective. All that should matter to Niner fans is Brock's performance on gameday. A QB is best measured by how well he executes the game plan.

If I'm starting a franchise today, Brock is top #3 QB for me.

His advanced and non-advanced stats consistently put him among the top three QBs. His tape shows elite traits that back up the numbers. I've never seen a young QB start his career so well and consistently get put outside the top ten. The Merri go round of love affairs with young QBs put ahead of him (Maye, Nix, Love, Darnold, Daniels, Stroud), including by fans on this board, and Brock continues to play better and more consistent than even Mahomes since entering this league. I'm having none of it any longer. I said it before the season and I'll say it again, Brock is winning the MVP this year.

The thing is if you put any of those other QBs in K**e's system they may well be a lot better than they are now. Kyle''s system is QB friendly. He's shown that over and over with success he's had with JG, Cousins and others. His backups have consistently come in and played well when needed. Darnold commented on how much he learned just practicing with the Niners during his time there. Mac Jones looked much better playing in this system than he ever did anywhere else.

Brock came in about as ready to play as a college QB can be. Four years starting at the same school in a pro style offense. He fit's well in Kyle's type of offense as do some other QBs. Like I said before, I don't care about the stats. I only care about wins and he's done a good job of leading the team so that's all you can ask. Is he a system QB? Maybe but so what. The QBs #1 job is to execute the game plan and that means following the system.

I just don't agree that Brock is a system QB. Unless you mean by system, he could go onto any team and run their system like a top QB.

Screw the stats. Look at the tape then. Brock consistently does things that are elite. His anticipation is arguably the best in the league. His footwork is elite. He has elite pocket awareness and pocket maneuverability. He routinely makes plays when the play breaks down.

Yes, Kyle has a great system. So does Andy Reid. Is Mahomes a system QB who owes his success to the weapons and offense around him? But somehow Brock is?

At first, it was the Jimmy G effect. Jimmy fell off a cliff QB wise and got carried by a great defense and running game to a lot of wins. So when Purdy came onto the scene as a successful rookie, the narrative was that he was just a game manager being carried by Kyle and the system. Then when Purdy put up the stats, it was well he is on a super team. (which looking back is kind of a ridiculous take). Then it is let's see him do it without a great team, and then he just lead the team to a playoff win with half the team injured and It is still not enough. Meanwhile many of the other "Elite" QBs are missing the playoffs entirely or getting bounced from them early every year and everyone acts like it never happened. Purdy statistically has had one of the best starts to a career in history in multiple categories. That is just a fact. If he put up another great statistical winning season it still won't be enough. They will go back to the Purdy is on a Kyle super team. Even though the majority of the media picked the Niners to miss the playoffs. And those that did have us going had us 3rd in the division.

I agree that other QBs are not held to the same standard. Which in Purdy's case seems like an impossible standard. The only other QBs I can think of treated to an unfair standard is Darnold and Hurts. And in Darnold's case he was so bad at the start of his career and with Hurts it is the lack statistical sucess. So there is still a huge difference from Purdy's career. I completely understand if people don't want to put Purdy in the top 5. But everyone having QBs like Herbert, Love, and Caleb ahead of him, is just ridiculous at this point.
Only thing that matters is results. And I can't think of 5 QBs that have put out better results than Purdy.

Technically Jimmy G has a better win percentage with the 49ers than Purdy...

.691 vs .674 according to stat muse.

can't argue against facts.

All this talk is reminding me of how excited folks were about Nate Davis.

Every year without fail a fanbase gets overhyped in preseason because the third string qb is lighting up scrubs. It was annoying then when people said that nick Mullens should start over jimmy g because he looked good in preseason and it's annoying now with Purdy. Despite the exceptions coaches for the most part will know who to play and who not to play. There's a reason Brock Purdy went last in the draft in the weakest Qb class since 2013.

Lol

CJ Beathard, Nick Mullins, Brian Hoyer?

Jimmy G is ranked #9 QB of all time in QBR.

To the very end of his time as a 9er, he possessed an elite release, top 5.

This facilitated stagnation in shanahans pass design, as he could rely on jimmy hitting inreasing smaller windows with the same in breaking routes. With our legendary pass pro necessitating release within 2.5 seconds, jimmy was a good solution to a difficult equation. He doesn't get credit for what he did well here, and the coaching staff never took responsibility for failing to come up with different zone beaters to make easy throws for him.

Because Brock has elite escapability, he can go off schedule and create. jimmy couldn't do that after the knee. Jimmy had problems but he also contributed real positives to our playoff runs.

We all know rule changes have affected QBR rating over the decades. It can easily be seen.

Still it's a stat which shows that a player can consistently produce and is worth acknowledgement. Any impartial fan who is not interested in playing media PR games can understand this.

People in here loving on Jimmy g. One hit wonder that literally sunk this team. Thank god purdy showed up. Jimmy was a wreck out there with happy feet throwing to the other team with excellent precision, taking sacks and finding ways to lose. Dude was soooo bad we drafted a kid that had less football under his belt than a kid in pop warner. Be thankful for Brock, jones and EQB3. We have a great qb room. Jimmy G….. the G was for Garbage. But he had the best release…. Yeah, when I think of his release the only thing that comes to mind is we should have released him sooner. It's a disgrace to even mention his name along side Purdy.

Lol. He was so bad he took us to 3 nfc championship and a super bowl. And is ranked 9 all time. Got publicly humliated by a brain trust who executed the worst trade in nfl history to take a qb with a history of something less than 275 total snaps at the position in college and highschool combined. And he still stuck sround and took us deep in the playoffs that year. He knew his job was to cover for s**tty decisions made by the fo and senior coaching staff and did professionally. So gtfo with your. Bs takes that rewrite ancient history.
Love him or hate him Jimmy is ancient history. This is the Brock Purdy thread. Let's all love Brock
I was surprised to see Drew Lock had a higher passer rating than Brock after week one. Crazy

I'm still a Jimmy fan, but Brock is the real deal. Just give Brock a superbowl defense and I'm confident he can win multiple 🏆's for us.

We went to two title games with Jimmy, and he really played poorly in the 2nd run. He was hurt though, in addition to being pretty dumb.

The Trey Lance trade was especially awful because the player wasn't good enough to replace Jimmy right away… not even close.
