This team was 24th running the ball last year. If you think we be successful in 2026 with out improvement i got nothing for you.

They didn't have any deep threats last year.

all we need is health, especially on the o line. Only weak part of our O, IMO, is the TE depth. I don't love our o line but I don't think it's bad - just need solid LG play.

if Kittle can't play early on, which idk how I feel about him playing early on regardless, the backup guys concern me.

Until the 49ers get back to running the ball i would temper those expectations. They were garbage last year and Brock isnt going to succeed without it.

I think a revitalized Puni, which was hurt all year last year. And a solid LG - I think we have a couple solid options with the 2nd year guy from Iowa and the dude we signed from Miami.

my only concern is the center. He's average on his best days and that's concerning, we have some young talent that could step in if he's hurt though.

overall, I agree that we need more efficiency from our run game. Can't average 3 yards a clip again. I like kid Black and the 2nd year guy James. I'm optimistic.

If those promising young centers were good enough one of them would be starting instead of backing up. Fans love to think the backups are better than the starters. I'm pretty sure the coaches would see thst and make the changes if they were.

Guys can develop though. Perfect world Carver Willis shows up and looks like an easy fit at center and someone who can start there for many years to come. Brett Toth may be a solid temp replacement too. Curious to see the competition in camp.

make it make sense
actually it makes a lot of sense, and its because its binary thinking

a mid tier starting qb in the NFL, especially one that can be found in later rounds, is an undeniable success on its own. if you are anywhere from top 10-15 people at your job in the world, you're doing pretty damn well.

and binary thinking prevents people from seeing the big picture. People would laugh about Kirk Cousins and almost be insulted when a young QB's ceiling they like is compared to Cousins, but if you look at Cousins career numbers he achieved so many things in his career most other NFL QBs havent. Its a compliment to a young QB if someone thinks they can be a Kirk Cousins . And yet hes still a mid tier QB. You dont have to be an elite QB to be given recognition or props. It's not a slight to be a mid tier QB nor is it a bad idea to find guys who can be like these guys.

I mean, sure, ideally you want an elite top 5 player at the position. But that ideal situation might never come. And sometimes even trying to upgrade from mid tier ends up in a disaster

In short, there is absolutely nothing wrong with seeing someone as a mid-tier player and trying to emulate their success.

The binary thinking is thinking if a player isnt elite he sucks and vice versa.

It's also because Brock's elite traits are hard for people to appreciate. Brock may not be an elite QB overall but his processing, anticipation and layering of passes is 100% elite.

The problem is many fans see what Brock is doing and majority of it either looks too simple(when in reality it's not) and they don't see the run around and then throw a 40+ yard rope throw into tight windows all the time so it doesn't register as high level stuff.

When Brock reads the defense at a high level and throws virtually blind simply because he knows what the defense is playing and where his targets will be if he throws to a spot how it looks on gameday could be a straight forward completion or "he threw to a wide open guy" or simply "Shanahan scheme"

He gets more love for the layered throws but even those sometimes bite him in the butt cuz by design they have to be on the high end. Sometimes if the WR can't come down with it, it looks like an ugly pick or an inaccurate throw. Meanwhile being able to drop in a pass over the underneath defenders for big gains is right up there with some of those cannon throws the big arm QBs make. If anything the difficulty is tougher.
With arguably his worst talent in the passing game and playing with turf toe outside of the first 2 quarters of week 1.

Zero chance Shany starts a rookie center.

It's hard for a rookie center to step in and start. Especially on a complex system like Kyle uses. Only the rare exceptional college center can make the leap from college to starter right away. That is unless the projected starter gets hurt.

Ya.....another frustrating year of Brendel.

He's 150 passing attempts away from being the highest ever rating at QB in the history of the league, if he continues on the pace he has set to date. If that isn't elite, then I don't know what is.

When was the last time we had a legit deep threat? Ted Gin?

We have always been a short passung game YAC, pound the rock , play action offense.

Ted Ginn couldn't catch a cold. Terrible hands. His catch % was 47%. He only had 380 yards receiving in his 3 years in SF. Fans love those deep bombs but the fact is they aren't very common in the NFL. Most of the really deep ones happen when a defender falls down or on a broken play where the defender loses track of the receiver. Accuracy and quick delivery out to about 20 yards is more important. It's what makes Brock so effective.

They didn't have good receivers last year. They have had better receivers in the past.
