Bingo! That's all I'm saying. Yet folks are getting all defensive about it

You're insinuating that the team is basically negotiating against themselves so letting Purdy test the waters would give them a way to put Brock in his place.

Like he said at the end of the day Lamar may not have gotten a fully guaranteed deal but he still got the highest QB contract at the time. Not like the Ravens put him out there to test the market value and then when he didn't get any bites they said "well since nobody wants you except for us, here's a $40 a mil year deal, take it or leave it"

So yes Ravens got him to forget the fully guaranteed contract stuff...do you think Brock is asking for a fully guaranteed deal? That would be a better comparison.

Like I said, what have you heard so far that indicates this will ever get to this level of negotiations?

How does the team benefit if Brock holds out?

If Team ___ is willing to give Brock Purdy $45M a year, that doesnt mean thats all he is worth. That just means that is as much as said team is willing to pay him after giving up all the draft compensation that would be required to get him. That also doesnt mean said team would not be willing to pay him more if they could get him for free.

If there are no teams in the market that are currently looking for a QB willing to pay him more than that…guess what his market value is? $45M

There's nothing disingenuous about that.

Just because you think something is worth more doesn't mean it is… I'll sell ya my grandma's beanie baby collection for twice as much as the current market value, if you want 😝

It doesn't. We obviously don't want him to hold out ideally.

It'd be seeing who blinks 1st. As a QB, he's locked in for 3 more years here, since it's the most important position. The low compensation he's due for in 2025 is all the more reason for him to take less than he wants in an extension,...and holding out for a year could potentially ruin his career cause guess what? That'd push his date-of-freedom out an extra year, and hurt himself that way. Does a player that hasn't really made much on the field of play really want to take that risk?

Is he really that good to be so bold? I doubt it,...but we'll see.

How does this team benefit from over paying Brock?

So what just over pay every player that might hold out?

Meet in the middle.

Whatever contract the Niners offer will most likely be back loaded with some kind of option to renegotiate after a few years ( 3 ) would be my guess. I think the signing bonus will really show what they think he is worth, and guaranteed $$ will be the second. This could keep his cap hit lower for the first few years. JMHO I guess we will see

You know very well that's not the same situation. We've seen Christian Kirk get a mega deal that he had absolutely no business getting. Do you think he would've gotten the same offer if the season prior to him hitting free agency Arizona let him test the waters but with an understanding the other team has to not only pay him but give up serious draft picks?

It's not simply "Sign with us for $45 million cuz nobody else will pay you that"

The player can bet on themselves and play out their deal. Force the team with cap issues to franchise them or hit the open market where teams like the Jags(via Kirk deal) can pay well above the going rate. I can almost guarantee you there were Cardinals fans thinking he wasn't going to make anywhere near that and no team would give him that money.

The issue is it makes the 49ers look terrible for not paying a kid who saved their ass from Lance being a bust. It also hurts the ability to bring in other FAs when you don't have a good grasp on your long term cap situation. It also increases potential for poor play from the guy you need to be locked in for a big turnaround season.

Sure there's the upside of if Brock plays poorly again you avoid a bad contract but odds are another HC/GM will be making the next QB selection.

you said Balt did this to LJ to find his MV. Now it's jumped to fully gtd. That wasn't the point you are making here. Still, what MV did they get from placing a NEFT on LJ ? Who offered him a contract and was willing to give up 2 first rounders and how does that situation relate to Brocks?

The BA so called MV scenario was created by himself with wanting a trade after our offer. No team is going to make BA the highest paid and give up draft picks. how is that related to getting Brock's MV right now?

You bring up Staff, How is that related to Brock's MV. He's not asking for an extension, looks like he didn't ask for anything. Also who is lining up to give them a first rounder? What screwed themselves in compensation and severed a relationship with their best asset to winning.

Yeah he wanted his MV to be what Watson got. Turns out no one wanted to give him that AND he didn't get it.

It was just as much SF trying to figure out his worth with BA. He made it public to try and control the narrative. They did the same thing with Buck, he didn't make it public.

you told me teams don't let players negotiate deals with other teams. That's exactly what Stafford is doing with his agent….In order to even think about compensation trade wise, there has to be a contract that Stafford agrees upon. His agent shows LA the deal and if they don't like it, then it time to figure out trade compensation. No different than what I said COULD be an option if Brock wants to hold out for top of the market cash (not saying he does).

you can pretend none of that is the same because you don't want to admit you were wrong. Doesn't change the facts.

I'm not gonna go back and forth about it.
lol it's not me admitting, I'm not the one bringing bad examples here. You're the only one on this soap box who is getting countered here, not me

Again, LJ didn't have one year left on his contract to be placed on the NEFT, They ended up paying him more. How is that equal to Brock's situation right now? Maybe if they make him playout this upcoming season, then we can see how the market is?

BA, It wasn't SF trying to find a market, they set the price. It was take it or leave it. What teams offered didn't change what SF wanted to pay him.

your response on Staff is totally wrong with what your claiming is relate with what i said. The Rams put stafford on the block, Staff is not coming up on a contract year or asked for an extension. They simply don't want him anymore, how is that related to any of this Brock talk

exactly, none of the examples can be truly be discussed. they are just not related.. mainly because what NY is asking doesn't happen

This is true. If he is only worth at most $45M to 31 other teams, that does not mean he could not end up being worth much more to us in the long run. It only means his market value is $45M,....and I think this overused term is where alot of the confusion comes from.

How much he may truly end up being worth is all a guess (for the future), whereas market value is something you can literally assess in real time, regardless of the eventual outcome.

There's nothing disingenuous, it's just 1 person is talking about apples and the other maybe doesn't realize they're really talking about oranges

His market value (in terms of how you are using it), would be $45m a season PLUS all of the draft capital that would be given up. So again, that doesnt apply to us because we wouldnt have to trade draft picks and extend him. We just have to extend him.

You think it's a bad example because it doesn't fit your narrative.

They didn't pay him a FGTD contract like he wanted. Plain and simple. Deflect it all you want doesn't change anything. No different than if Brock wanted Dak cash but ended up getting Jordan Love money.

Wrong about Stafford….

"The Los Angeles Rams have granted quarterback Matthew Stafford and his agent permission to talk to other teams about his market value, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday.

By doing this, the Rams and Stafford can gain a better understanding of his worth, Rapoport added"

B-Rock Steady Purdy's situation is not different than Grappy after we traded for him.. if Brick by Brick Brothers feel that it's all KYLE, then why pay the guy?

lol, you're not saying that tho

LJ and BP situation even if BP asked to be the highest paid is still not equal

Then let the market determine it. Simple as that. If there's teams that are gonna pay him $65M per or whatever, either move him or fork over the cash.

Why is that so complicated? If NO team is gonna pay him that, then he's not gonna get paid that much money. Period.

trade compensation is a side bar imo. If he's truly a young stud elite franchise QB than draft picks don't matter that much….you had teams lining up to give whatever for Watson even though he was being criminally investigated for sexual abuse AND he wanted a FGTD contract.
