he didn't. I think that's very interesting. Not saying he's giving up on Lance, I just think it's telling that they're not thinking that this is a gimme to Lance anymore.

Because the media will skewer him if he just hands the job back to lance. Last year you had the excuse that purdy was the 3rd stringer. Now that he's played and is averaging 31 pts per game and seems to execute the offense better than any have yet he can't say that.

If he gives the job back to lance and lance sucks people will call for his head and purdy immediately.

I think the real question people should be asking is what can purdy have done better given the circumstances? Should be be hanging 50 pts every game on teams? What are the expectations of our starting QB? Is wrapping up games at halftime or in the 3rd quarter not enough to win the job?

Has he not done enough to win the job back yet?

Actually you make some really good points. It was probably best for him to just not answer it at all.

i think Purdy has done more than a good enough job. I'm really curious how he performs in the playoffs. I think that will be a big thing for how a lot of us feel going into the off season.

if Purdy has a bad playoff game and we lose, a majority of people on here will want Lance to get a shot.

So from now on, we draft TE's in late rounds with elite athletic traits, ER's and WR's with the highest 3 cone scores and QB's with elite 10 yard splits and natural throwing ability??? Am I getting this down right?

Honestly, I feel like the organization is always evolving in how they evaluate and prioritize physical traits, which is a good thing. Football is constantly changing, so the good organizations need to adjust their player evaluation according to what's happening in the league.

Although, there has been one constant: they put an absolute premium on high-character players, especially after taking a swing and miss on Reuben.

They're just so damn good at it it's almost becoming science at this point. LOL.

And no doubt, they went back to their '49er Way' mantra. And that's a great thing.

Those numbers are Montana esque. Or Brady esque to use a more current example. That isn't just good. It's scary good.

It's almost like, who cares? How many times have we seen big investments in FA and the upper part of the draft including trade ups only to have 4th-UDFA's outplay them, become core players and get paid here?

This could be no different.

But nothing wrong with letting Trey compete and earn it even though he may be starting at the bottom of the hill.

Whatever. I'm honestly drooling over Purdy so far and hope it continues. 😍😍.

Me too, but my natural pessimism is trying it's damnedest to temper my excitement.

1. Has not lost a game.
2. Up by two scores going into the 4th every game.
3. Hanging 30+ points a game...

Please God let him go 7-1 and lose a playoff game for ammunition

Not good enough let's bring in lance and let him start and see what he does. He has to be better. Don't give purdy the job.

That's actually what the Jimmy fans would like. Trade Lance and resign him so he can be the guy with Brock as the backup.

As you should. The kid just seems like a 10 year veteran with his decision making and execution. Just the little added skill sets of pocket feel and quick mobility has allowed Kyle to call 6-12 different plays.
