I think you have that backwards. There was a contingent in here that for the last three years had been saying put Lance in and give him a chance to suck, now that Purdy is going through the inevitable growing pains that a lot of young players do, your argument seems to be that it would have been okay for Lance to suck for three years but it's not okay for Purdy to be going through his rough patches. You can't have it both ways.
The problem with Lance was, as one beat writer put it, his floor was so low that the team didn't think they could afford to wait around for him to reach his ceiling, whatever that might end up being. Purdy's floor is much higher, maybe higher than Lance's ceiling based on that Raiders game. Certain people in here like to fool themselves into thinking that because he had a
decent deep ball he could somehow parlay that into some kind of superior starting ability. The problem, as was so amply demonstrated in the Raider game, is that, after three years of training camps, he didn't seem to understand what he was seeing and lacked the willingness to just pull the trigger when the shot was there. It probably wasn't a coincidence that they traded him shortly thereafter. Brock has had some tough times the last few games, but he has also made some really great throws and made some good plays. The defense hasn't helped him much during those games but, of course, to some in here that doesn't matter, because wins, after all are a team stat, but when they lose it's all the QB's fault.
