QB Brock Purdy Thread

Why do so many people give Trey Lance full blown "overprotective Jewish mother" treatment?

I want the Niners to play the best quarterback. I trust the team will do that. This is the weirdest non-QB controversy I've ever seen.

There is virtually no way that Lance can beat what Purdy did last season simply by virtue of the fact that one is in camp and the other won 7 straight regular season and playoff games. That doesn't mean either guy can't excel or take steps back, but my god, this is absurd...even for the historical hysteria of this board.

No one is going to lose their job after going undefeated and nearly reaching a super bowl, regardless of what you think of him. And if he did, it would mean the coaches agree and that Lance looks better to them right now.

If Trey had won 8 games including 2 playoff games he would be getting the benefit of the doubt or if Brock had performed poorly last year but also injured his elbow a) QB1 would be an open competition and b) there would be a lot less leeway (none?) for Purdy.

The fact is unless Brock looks awful in camp (and it's still early but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case) he's going to start week 1.

If Brock doesn't deliver on the field in the regular season then Kyle will pull the trigger - the expectations on the team are too high not to.

Right. I give Brock the benefit of the doubt because when he's had opportunities, he's produced at a very high level.

the other, in four starts, managed to be considered a top 3 pick to the trade value of maybe a 3-5th rounder.

if Brock's healthy, I'd rather start him until he proves me wrong before considering anyone else on the roster.

Agreed.

My guess is paint chips.

A lot of these big time Trey fans have been swearing up and down all off season how Brock wasn't going to be ready, Lance was going to show up in camp and take the QB1 spot, Brock wouldn't even be ready for week 1. Etc etc and regardless how much you tried to explain to them why that wasn't going to happen, they would freak out on you.

now it's all slipping out of their hands and proving to be wrong and some people can't handle being wrong, so they lash out when anything threatens that.

it's what happens when you're overly emotional about a single player, you rationalize everything, regardless how ridiculous it sounds.

only way Lance was going, or is going to Be to be QB1, is if sometbing happens to Purdy (injury or he sucks really bad). If either happen, I'll support Trey and root for him, but it never made any sense to think he was going to have all camp to take the job or that anyone but Brock would be QB1 when healthy.

Make it make sense

Damn I didn't realize they said all that… so pathetic lol

This. Honestly he could bomb the entire camp and probably half the season before shanahan would even consider switching. The guy tends to have a longer leash than I would for below average QB play.

There's nothing lance or darnold can do to unseat Brock at any time. Brock would need to lose the job himself. Hes shown extensive mental fortitude that I doubt it will happen.

Part of what makes him special is the mental toughness and the ability the not let games get away from him when things don't bounce perfectly his way.

This is so dumb lol. You don't have to be a Jewish(not sure why it had to be a Jewish one but ok) overprotective grandparent to want to see a young kid playing on your team get proper treatment by the media.

Nobody is saying the reports should prop him up when hes not doing well but wanting unbiased reporting and to have the same urgency to report the good as they do the bad isn't being overprotective. It's being a fan who doesn't see players as commodities and doesn't want to see them trashed for no good reason.

Personally I'll do the same thing for any player on this team if i feel they're getting a raw deal from the media or opposing fans. And for everyone playing the "why do you care about what strangers on the internet say?" You're literally posting on a message board on the internet so clearly you care as well. That's why we're fans because we enjoy the sport and enjoy talking about it.

Do I think it's crap when I see it? Yes. Does this stuff keep me up at night? Of course not.

Let's not get it twisted, any fan posting here or on Twitter is not your typical fan. Most fans are casuals who watch/go to the game and then don't think about it for a week. If you took the time to sign up for an online message board to talk 49ers you're a degenerate just like me.

I don't get it either, first born treatment lol. I think we have some good players all around, gotta be happy about that:). I don't really read a lot of the Trey posts cause they seem to be a bit much at times. I think there's lots to be positive about instead of griping. We didn't even have a qb during NFC Champ game lol. Now we got our QB1 back and good back ups. Good stuff

Agree. Just makes sense. But simple truth doesn't create drama or click bait lol. What's the fun in that? 😆

there is a reason why this is so, but we aren't allowed to discuss it openly here on this forum

It also used to be an unwritten rule you didn't lose your job because of injury. But we have seen that broken many times.
