The best player isn't the one that's necessarily the most important.
It's Jimmy.
You can't look at the splits between him starting and not starting to see how important he is to the success of the team. With Lance that might be mitigated a bit, but for 2021 I think there's still a good chance we go as far as Jimmy can take us. Unless Lance is truly ready for primetime this season then Jimmy is the MVP.
LOL
It might have when the backup was CJ Beathard

The only way Jimmy is MVP is if it stands for Most Vulnerable Player.

There is an article that links Haberman and Middlekauf's podcast which discusses which 49er players would be the most devastating to lose for injury. I feel like that topic is essentially the same as this one. Here is their list:
1. Bosa
2. Trent (noted this could be more of a 1B than 2)
3. Warner
4. Kittle
5. Jimmy

Yeah pretty much in that order. The top 4 are the core of the team. Elite franchise players at their respective positions. Hopefully Trey can become the 5th and work his way up to that #1 spot.

It's easily Jimmy.
QB is the most important position in team sports and we've seen what the 49ers are without him.
Don't overthink it.

Yes or No.....do you expect Trey Lance to be better than CJ Beathard, Nick Mullens and/or Brian Hoyer?
If your answer is yes, you are using a dated/false equivalence to formulate your opinion.

We've all seen what happens when reality crashes into our expectations of value.
There's little evidence of a reliable glide path with this team.
