Buffalo actually has or at least had at one time a very strong Mafia presence going all the way back to the 30's. I saw a heated argument between a local Mafia dude and someone who owed him money. it took place right in front of several people in a hotel bar that I was staying at. The guy was threatening to cut his heart out and all kinds of stuff. It was like watching a movie. I asked the bar tender what it was all about after they left and he just said local mob stuff like it happened all the time. Don't mess with Buffalo fans.
It's gone down a lot, but it used to be pretty bad.
One poor girl was a musician and had her hands broken due to her dad not paying a debt.
Problem is, you don't know who is or isn't connected. So it's better just not to cross anyone west of Tonawanda.
And the cops don't get involved with the mafia dealings.
Sounds like you live around there. I was there back in the 90's. I was actually in a hotel bar in Niagra Falls just across the river. I was a little scared because I thought the guy might shoot the other guy. The funny part was the bartender. He acted like it was just another night.
The closest thing they have to an organized mob here in Oregon are the Daisy Ducks. That's the women's Duck booster club. You don't want to piss them off.
