Seems like the kind of mind this team likes. Former ivy league grad. Played linebacker in college. Has coached both linebackers and defensive backs between college and the NFL with more time on the defensive backs it looks like.
Based on the little bit of information out there on him I see, looks like a bright guy.

Seems like a big downgrade. Going from someone with tons of experience to someone with very little.

This. Any addition of football nerd on this team's coaching staff is welcome. It seems like we're one of the very few teams in the NFL that develops coherency with a bunch of football minds. From what I've read Woods wasn't involved much in the gameplan side of things. He was brought more on because of his reputation as a solid technique coach.
EDIT: thl hit on this a little bit better in post number 11.
