He might be the best tackle of all time considering his longevity. Dude had brain cancer at 30 missed a season and now nearly 40 still throwing up multiple all pro seasons. I was annoyed at first when he was "asking" for a new contract again but the way it was written out it was inevitable and essentially meant to be reworked at the time. It was beneficial for both the 9ers and him to redo it because the cap hit was so high. He didn't hold out we got the deal done months before camp. It should be no reason to hate this legend

Should the 49ers get lucky enough to win the Super Bowl this year I think many of the big name/big money players will be gone next offseason. That would include Trent but start with Bosa. It's the money going out with the injuries. How they navigate the cap hits will be important.
A Super Bowl winner can swallow those bitter pills while the rest of the league comes gunning for them. Look at the ones Seattle let go. You have to think 2 years ahead and hope the 1st and 2nd year players advance.

This is tough, we are already taking a dead money hit from guys like B.A.

Can't just release everyone, there are penalties for that as well.

Why not? Do i need a 30 million dollar LT to win? Nope. The 49ers view the OL as group not an individual so we dont need that kind of investment in an aging player that likes to hold out and leverage more money. I would rather a balanced approach to OL investment.

You have a quarterback on a 250 million dollar deal and ~70m in cap space with Trent on the roster.

This isn't the either/or situation you're presenting. There is simply no financial need to move off of Trent other than saving cash for the sake of saving cash. He's a really good player in a really important spot.
