If you give him some of the easy ones maybe it builds his confidence. Sometimes that is all a player needs to get out of that rut he is in. He made some really nice catches this past week. Maybe he just isn't getting enough targets. Boost his targets, boost his production.

The bottom line is the ball hasn't been spread around enough.

Players have to earn those touches. He has to prove it's a better idea to give those to him and not Deebo. Deebo has been a monster this year with the ball in his hands. Why would Kyle take the ball out of the hands of Deebo and George Kittle and give them to Aiyuk? How can that be justified. He's a 1st round pick making a lot of money, why does he have to be treated like he's fragile. He's got a job to do and they expect him to be a big time receiver - go be a big time receiver.

This whole dialog is dumb.

Aiyuk oozes natural catching ability and is beyond "effective". He is nowhere near pettis bust level. Not sure what is causing this insanity. It seems like the FO should be handling it differently. This dude helps the team win and should be part of the on-field mix. Deebo Kittle and Aiyuk give us one of the better pass catching sets in the NFL. No more excuses why Shanny doesn't have the talent he needs to make his magic.

Tell John Lynch he hasn't made strides either 4 years in.... This was a terrible statement

I'll let him know next time he has me over for a BBQ.

It really is a terrible statement though.

Monday morning or armchair or internet QB'ing and GM'ing is certainly easier than the real thing. But that said, he has to know on some level that his drafts have largely disappointed the fan base. Yes, some gems have been there. But there's also been a lot of roster filler and mediocre guys. People are obviously frustrated this year because you gave a lot away to get the rawest QB amongst the first round prospects whom you knew wasn't playing/starting this year barring injury. Which, that now has happened. You draft an offensive lineman who's inactive. You draft a running back whom I'm rooting for and think will be okay as an Ohio State fan but whom you barely use at this point. You draft a cornerback who opted out last year who you haven't used at all even as corners are dropping like flies due to injury because he isn't good enough/ready yet.

I don't know what's going on with Aiyuk. I trust to a certain extent that they know more than me and that there are reasons for it. But when he plays and gets opportunities he doesn't look as inept as what Pettis started to when his time here went into the crapper. It kind of is mysterious.

I'm not excusing Shanahan for not having top end players when his 1st round WR isn't performing like a 1st round WR - if he wasn't good enough for that draft slot, that's on them. But, acting like Aiyuk is playing some high level football just isn't accurate. He's not beating his man in 1v1 situations. It shouldn't take Lance firing a ball into tight coverage to get Aiyuk catches. Is that really the level of separation we expect from our 1st round WR? We see Brady throwing to Evans and Brown who have leverage, separation, get CB's out of phase, stack corners - Davanta Adams made our corners look silly in man-cov. Why are we not expecting this from Aiyuk? The contested catches we saw vs ARI are great, but that's not any sustainable way to produce in the NFL. I don't know any coach who draws it up like that. "Alright, Brandon, we really need you to create 2.4" of separation on this play. So, push the corner vertical one step and make it so the QB has a football sized window to throw it"

That might be exactly what Shanahan is drawing up. Revolutionary

Meanwhile CeeDee Lamb is popping off.

so do you endorse sanu and benjamin getting snaps over him? I don't think anyone is saying take the ball from Deebo or Kittle, but there's enough to spread around to use all of our actual weapons. In your mind, how would aiyuk "take the next step"?

How does one "earn" touches to you? Even in his super limited action this season, he's shown his unique talent.

Deebo has had his fair share of drops this season and Kittle hardly showed up in the passing game before going on IR. I am willing to bet Deebo has twice as many targets than anyone else on the team this season. When Aiyuk got his opportunities in the AZ game, he made the most of them. A couple of really nice catches. A receiver cannot produce unless he is being targeted, plain and simple.

I see him making a lot of difficult catches most of which are because our qb's wobble the ball all over the place.

But, let's suppose he's just not winning enough. Do you call out the guy in front of the whole world?

What other management team does this? To a receiver that's produced and does produce, when he's not benched.

Wouldn't be surprised to see him traded at some point.

does deebo consistently get separation? are you saying there's no way for kyle to scheme aiyuk open to take advantage of his clearly-obvious yac skills? ok so he's not on the level of those guys you mentioned, yet. So the answer is to just keep him out of the offense almost entirely? Like ok he may not be a true WR1 yet but because of this, we can't use him?

He is getting snaps. We've always, always rotated receivers. He and Sanu have about the same amount of targets and Aiyuk was still limping week 1. His catch % when targeted is 7% lower than Deebo's.

He has to earn that by showing on film that he's beating his man. Showing in practice(which the coaches watch film of) that he's making all his routes looks the same in the tree.

That's how he earns it. You don't have the luxury in the game to just give your WR's a chance because, "well, he might be good, might not". No, you take calculated risks. Davanta Adams got like 19 targets vs our CB's. Why didn't Rodgers give his other guys a chance more often?

You give the guy who's earned it the most opportunities.

You're not allowed to have any targets unless you have 10 yards of separation. Unless you're Deebo of course

I think its a tell.

Some one on the other team now looks at aiyuk for the first 3 or 4 routes. If Jimmy's not even looking at him, they know kyle is pissed and can cheat elsewhere.

It's almost like our idea of managing a football team is make it into a public soap opera.

Which qb is playing today? What's the game plan? Who's on the sh^t list? WHo's on IR for how long?

PLus we have the coaching staff doing in-depth critique of player performance to the media.

All the habits of a winning franchise.

Deebo has almost 4x the amount of targets. They each have their roles. Deebo is the flanker, Aiyuk is the Split end. Should Rice have complained when Terrell Owen's was the flanker getting targets vs zone?

It has to do with scheme. The flanker will get more targets vs zone and the split end should get more vs man. We're seeing more man coverage and our split end or X isn't winning 1v1's.
