The video explained it. If he is reinstated post Sept 1st and actually shows up, the 49ers are only on the hook for $1.35million base salary in 2026. The option bonus stuff is delayed and the 49ers can ask for 25% of his signing bonus back, and potentially sue Aiyuk to physically get it. If Aiyuk misses the first game because of all this, the 49ers can ask for all of his signing bonus back and potentially sue Aiyuk to physically get it.
The 49ers are doing nothing right now and waiting to see what Aiyuk does, because there is nothing for them to do. If Aiyuk misses those deadlines, the 49ers lose nothing by following the process and clawing back money.
