If it were a minor technicality on why he missed millions gtd, then heck yeah let it be known.

Put the pressure on your employer to move you.. Other teams will take a chance on that.. rather than what's going on now

Apparently other teams are interested, and the 49ers are willing to move him clearly. Nobody was going to take on his deal with or without the future guarantees after his injury. We already saw this play out last offseason when he was shopped.

Putting out a public statement blaming the 49ers doesn't motivate the 49ers to work in your behalf and only serves to try and steer opinion on him among primarily 49ers fans. It means nothing.

Any argument in his defense would be made in private.
Of course teams are interested, but they would be more interested if he was actually trying to be in the NFL.

also, what you are missing is he doesn't have to actually say anything to let it be known. Just needs to show up and be turned away. By being turned away would literally set social media sleuths on fire. Which would force the 49ers to do something.

but he's not and has just gone on with his life

From what I read, on top of that, he also wouldn't count towards the cap, nor roster spot allocations.

Brandon cannot force a trade or release without reporting, and even if he does try to report, there's no guarantee he would be reinstated without an agreement already in place to trade him.

"For Left Squad, reinstatement is more flexible and team-driven. The player would need to report, pass a physical, and meet any team/League requirements"

Right, but the contract tolls, or pauses. The 49ers are eventually going to take a significant dead cap charge and they would have to decide whether it's in their interest to push that down the road. That's putting aside the eventual grievance Aiyuk would likely have if they kept him on the list in spite of good faith efforts on his part (if he were to make any). They have latitude in his reinstatement process but they also can't use the list indefinitely as a punitive measure.
If he doesn't do anything, he's considered gone/retired.

no new cap charges can be made

Uh, there's nothing for him to show up to currently and it seems pretty obvious he's attempting to run out the clock here presumably unless a team he actually wants to play for attempts to trade for him. Reports are Washington, where everyone has him pegged to land, is not offering a trade.

Regardless, again, there is no benefit to him defending himself with a public statement… which is what was being discussed here. He can talk to teams in private and there's no value in trying to steer mainly 49ers fans opinion.

The contract tolls. It doesn't evaporate. It is paused until there is a resolution. The 49ers have a dead cap charge waiting for them one way or another.

If he never shows up, they don't.

What's interesting about BAs agent situation is the fine print in his agent/client contract. There may be clauses where if the player does something outlandish and/or egregious (but in legal terms) and the guarantees are voided etc - the player will owe the agent what he was owed or would of earned had the player not doing something stupid. Idk what their contracts say but it wouldn't surprise me if there are clauses like that. His agent must be pissed, understandably. Imagine having to try and explain to teams what's going on and why, and he probably doesn't even know.

I would have thought the agent would be paid in full once Aiyuk signed.

It's possible, just depends on whatever their agreement was. I'd presume that isn't how it works but I can't definitively say that. Especially with how much fluff is in NFL contracts - would agents get paid a % of $ that the player never received? I wouldn't think So.

I just found this
"NFL agents typically collect payments via direct deduction from a player's earnings—such as signing bonuses or weekly paychecks—authorized by the player, often via a tripartite agreement with the team. Agents are paid on a commission basis, with the NFLPA capping playing contract fees at a maximum of 3%. For endorsements, agents often take 10% to 20%"

Seems like the norm is to collect as the player gets paid. Which is what I figured but there could be alternative stuff.

like for the NBA - that may happen cause they're fully guaranteed (primarily).

Most teams will eventually release them anyway, I think he'll be cut before the season or traded to be done with the distraction.

Agreed. Surprised it hasn't happened already, but obviously it would be beneficial if they could acquire an additional pick in a trade.

If he doesn't show up to camp, 9ers can just designate him as "left the team," then not pay him, and still keep his rights. I think.

He's already "reserved/left the team". He needs to get reinstated before he can step foot back on the practice field

Other teams have had problems communicating with him as well (according to reports). But I'm sure it's all part of brandons elaborate plays to get a worse contract because some guy in management hurt his feelings by saying he regretted the contract. That'll show the niners!

In reality I don't think Aiyuk wants to play football anymore. Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe I'll be wrong when he runs out of money but this has been one of the strangest situations I can ever remember.

Thousands of players have been upset at their employer for any number of reasons but I can't remember any giving up that kind of $$ without a fight.

Oh well, mistakes were made. Should have traded him instead of extending him but that ship has sailed. He'll be cut by September

It is beyond weird at this point and I really think the new focus should be his mental health. His situational awareness is questionable to the point that I'll be surprised if his mental health is normal / healthy .

another theory is he actually gained a lot of weight and is ignoring everyone to shred it off first

He Seams to be acting like a person with a drug problem.

That might make the most sense
